Paasche VL Review

I have added a review of the Paasche VL airbrush to my website. Comments are welcome.

Thanks

Don

Thanks for putting up a review.

I already use the paasche on ossasion, mine is well over 20 years old and still performs great. Paasche has been used and is still being used by many. Sure Iwatta makes a nice brush but for the price of a Paasche and the years of service it’s given me, it was money well spent.

I have a VL and always liked how it sprayed but I could never keep the darn needle from getting stuck no mater how well I cleaned it. I would go to use it the next time and the needle would be stuck. I went with the Badger Patriot and havent had a sticking problem since. If anyone knows of a fix for this I sure would like to know.

The VL has a channel in front of the needle seal that collects paint. Just flushing won’t get it out. Remove the head and run a pipe cleaner or brush with some solvent back to the seal until it comes out clean. It might also help to put a drop of airbrush lube on the needle when you reinstall it.

The Patriot has little or no space between the needle bearing and the cup.

I knew there had to be a reason because when I would pull the needle after getting it unstuck paint would be at just about were the seal is located…

Thanks

Bill

Don,

Thanks for the intelligent and honest review. I have to agree, that if the product is not right OOB, then it’s a good idea to let everyone know, and how the company responds.

I have had a VL for over 40 years now and it’s given warhorse service for that whole time. I got it as a “versatile” brush allowing me to use a wide array of media as needed. I have never used the #1 tip for modeling, but have used it in artwork. The #3 tip gets most of my use, even when I was using Testors enamals (well thinned). I’ve used the #5 for artist acrylics.

Mine’s been a good value for many years, and I would still recommend it to newbies looking for a very versatile long lasting AB.

I learned to airbrush on the Paasche VL back in the early 90’s.

It is a workhorse airbrush as people say but I don’t care for the larger diameter body of it and the Badger Crescendo. Once I tried the Vega 2000 back then on T-shirts I was hooked on the smaller diameter body which is more comfortable to me although I have good sized hands. (I’m 6’ 3" 210).
