For the engines, there is an excellent resin set made by Mark Buchler, but he’s currently out of stock. However, you can visit the page at his ModelShack website:

http://www.vairhead.net/modelshack/products_p61cowls.html

and send him an email to get on the mailing list for a notification when he’s cast more sets.

I ordered the set last year and it’s excellent, I recommend it.

Hope that helps!

Brad

Quickboost makes several items for this kit

Eduard makes some PE sets, and True Details makes resin wheels for this kit.

The P-61 was made by Northrop

I’m building the same kit right now. Just a few comments: be prepared for a bit of frustration, as it is an old kit and nothing fits together just right. You can make a nice model out of it, but it will take some improvising and lots of putty and careful sanding to fill the ill- fitting joints. Do a lot of dry fitting before you glue anything, and beware of the confusing instructions.

I bought aftermarket stuff from Squadron: resin wheels, metal landing gear, a sheet of good decals (I didn’t like the ones that came with the kit) and a set of canopy masks, which I consider a necessity for this model.

That stuff cost far more than the kit, which I got for $12 with a coupon at Hobby Lobby!

You can get a lot of AM stuff for the Widow at hannants.co.uk. I picked up about $70 worth of aftermarket parts, from them.

Look on google for a company called LoneStar - they used to make a resin cockpit for the kit.

thanks I had no idea there was so much available nice to have knowledgeable people to ask thanks fellas

There is also a clear resin canopy set out there, though I cannot remember who made it. I’m sure someone else here in the forum will know. I do believe it is out of production, and it was relatively expensive, even when it was still being made. I saw the set at Jerseycon but passed on it, on the price, and on the idea that I’ll take my chances with the kit’s styrene parts.

I built that kit when I was a kid, and I have one in the stash now for a future build. I know there are a lot of cautions about it, and some downright negative comments, but as a nostalgia builder and a Monogram fan, I’m excited to build it, and I remember only fun from when I built it as a kid. I think in the end, you’ll enjoy it, too.

Best regards,

Brad

And apropos of your build and your questions, this thread is currently active here in the Aircraft forum, so you might find this interesting, too:

That would be the Vector canopy set. It’s available from Ultracast (http://www.ultracast.ca/products/Vector/48%20Scale/VDS48-021/default.htm).

And thanks Brad for the kind mention of my engines and cowls.[;)]

Cap,

This website, http://www.neomega-resin.com/vector/cockpits.htm, has a P-61 propellor set, the clear resin canopy set and a resin engine set that is really awesome, excellent detail.

If you’re still looking for stuff.

Good luck.
