P-51 Drop tanks

I am currently working on the Tamyia 1/48 P-51D…I am very impressed w/ the tooling and detailing on this kit. It is far superior in my opinion to the 1/32 by Has…of course that my be old news to most of you guys here…so onto my question, I know the drop tanks fuel lines run into the wings, but where exactly do the enter the wings? I am planing on adding the fuel lines as a small detail and would like to get it fairly accurate.

Thanks

Ashton

On the metal tanks, two pipes came out just in front of the fairing; one went straight into the wing, just in front of the apex of the fairing, while the other ran along the outside, then went up into the wing ( almost at the back end of the fairing.) I believe that the paper tanks had a slightly different arrangement, with one pipe coming from the back end, but can’t (yet) find the evidence. I have a photograph of a metal tank, slung under the Imperial War Museum’s preserved P-51D; if it’d be any use, let me have an E-mail address, and I’ll send it on.

Redfinger, I just bought a book on the P-51D and it has a wealth of information on drop tanks of all things. I’ll have a gander and see what I can do for you!

that sounds great, my e-mail is ashton.holbrook@comcast.net

Here’s scn for one of my books.

Marc, no picture shows up

Redfinger, the picture on Jeaton’s site is much better than any of the ones I have… That shows everything!

Fixed

Wow, John, I never knew they did carrier trials with the P-51. Cool! I may have to make one of those!

Here’s one from the depth of my hdd.

Thanks guys for all the pics and info, I have more than enough now ot work with.
