P-51 "Bald Eagle"

I would like to build the P-51 nicknamed “bald Eagle”. does anyone know where I could find decals or point me in the right direction to some good references?

Thanks, all help is welcomed!

Aeromaster made these in 1/48th years ago.

Good luck.

do you think I could use these decals?

to make this plane?

Looks like everything on the “D” is on that “B” Mustang labelled B7*E. I’d guess it’s the same squadron and pilot’s markings just transferred onto a new airplane when the “D” model came in.

Yes they generally have the same dimensons, you should come to p-51 gb.

I find that, like everything else, decals designed for one kit, rarely fit another.

But, it looks like the only decal you really need is the one that says Bald Eagle - the rest are fairly easy to paint on. Stars and Bars as well as all the little “no step” and “stick this here” or “don’t stick that there” decals are pretty universal, so you can reuse those as well.

FYI, I am fairly certain that the D model in your picture is a restored warbird. I don’t think there was a wartime D model marked this way. Only the B model in the Aeromaster decals

I agree. Bald Eagle markings only appeared on the P-51B, as shown on the decal sheet. If you want to do the D model pictured, that’s fine, but you are modelling a restored aircraft in hypothetical markings rather than one that actually existed during WWII.

As far as the P-51B decals on the D, they should fit OK. You may have to cobble up the serial number, but that’s pretty easy to do.
