Looks great Marc i would have gone nuts with those decals.
Thank you all for the kind words
soulcrusher - She was with the 366FS, 358FG, 9th AF late inthe war. But armed with that info I still failed to find documentation for the orginal which is what I believe these markings to be based on… They are slightly diffenternt than she appears today
Marc a couple more first place finishes and you’ll have modeler of the year locked up…Nice Jug…in person, the bear metal almost blinded me…
Take care,
Doug
Wow what an outstanding build! Flawless.
Doug, ipms44268—thanks
Marc, beautiful job as always!
At some point I want to build the same bird to go along with some photos I have of my oldest son and myself standing next to “Tarheel Hal” at an air show a few years back.
Where did you find the markings? I plan on using the 1/48 Tamiya P-47D Bubbletop kit.

Hey - nice Jug…I like the finish.
How did the Tarheel Hal decals go on? What problems did you have?
I’ve got that same Super Scale sheet (Dave, it’s number 48-40)…were they easy to apply?
Thanks LeeTree!

excellent job ,very beautiful finish and great decals,i’d love to build that kit to add color, but i’m a little shy on the p-47,tried 2 and got bad kits both times, guess i need the hasegawa
It’s a real plane down in Galveston Tx. and Wing-nut, you it an outstanding job! Tar Heel Hal says thanks for doing such a great job.[swg]

There is a P-47D at the Lone Star Flight Museum in these colors. Excellent rendition of this colorful scheme.
Thanks for the compliments guys. The decal sheet is inaccurate in that the name and the stripe are yellow and they should be white. This sheet was sent to me by a fellow forum memebr and I can’t say how old it is but I think it may be a few years old. The main decal for the left side broke up into about 20 or 30 pieces, looking much like shards of broken glass, and I had to carefully put it back together before it dried. Not fun. You may want to use an aftermarket coating.
It’s an excellent looking bird wing_nut. Very colorful a/c. I think you did a great job with the decals too.
Anyone know where I can find a set of Superscale 48-040 markings (Tarheel Hal + 4 other birds)? My efforts are coming up empty.
-dave
Dave when I wanted to do this one for the P-47 GB I was also coming up empty. Then out of the blue a forum member said he had a sheet and sent it to me so I lucked out. I would say to try some of the other forums that have trading areas and through a request out there. I will try to remember to ask at my club meeting tomorrow to see if someone has that sheet. If you happen to be looking at one of the other birds on that sheet besides Tarheel Hal… you can have the rest of mine.
Looks great! Love the detail in the cockpit!
Thanks for the tip Marc, I try it. Yeah, I’m looking to build a replica of Tarheel to go along with this picture of my oldest son and myself with Tarheel taken a few years ago.
