For anyone who is interested, here is some pics of my latest project. It is a Tamiya 1/48 P-47D razorback. It is straight out of the box with no detail added at all, except eduard PE seatbelts. I still haven’t decided what scheme to finish it in, but I’ll probably not do ‘little chief’ because I’ve seen to many of them built and have never seen ‘Bud’ Mahurins aircraft done. Can someone out there help me make up my mind? I can’t decide which scheme to do.
The cockpit was sprayed Tamiya Olive green, then the control boxes painted black and dry-brushed.
The seatbelts are eduard PE.
The engine was sprayed with dark grey and then the cylinders were dry-brushed with silver. I might add the ignition wires as well, but they aren’t going to be very visible once completed so I don’t know whether I’ll bother.
Hope you like the pics, and please give me some feedback on what needs improving.
Looks really good. One of my Favorite planes behind the 'stang. Great skills on the dry brushing. I like looking at it. Post more as you work it.
I would look through decal set for 1:48 tbolts and see whats out there…that’ll help ya decide what to do.
Great looking build so far. I just got the 72nd scale version of this kit. I know what you mean about seeing the “Little Chief” overdone, but that’s the one I’ll probably do. Can’t wait to see it finished.
Looks great mate, really nice work. I reckon your gonna have to go with Walker Mahurin’s plane now as you’ve already got the correct magnetos on the engine for that version, and your engine looks great. I say stay the course and build the “Spirit of Atlantic City”.
thats a great start pingtang!! i’m diggin’ it. you sure make that OOB cockpit look fabulous!! keep up the good work. i haven’t looked into P-47’s much so i’m not familiar with there schemes. whatever you do, i’m sure its gonna look just as crisp as the cockpit and engine photos. later.
Thanks everyone. It looks as though I’m probably going to build the “spirit of Atlantic City”
That was what I had planned on since the start. Thanks again for the kind comments.
Looks great ping! This is one that I am hopefully going to get and tackle in the somewhat near future. Have you heard anything about the kit decals for it?? Are they really think like other Tamiya??
Hey, Daniel!
Looks great so far - I’d definately add the wires for the ignition harness - you will be able to see them clearly.
I don’t know much about which fighter group had what markings, but I’ve always liked the checkertail schemes, or the schemes with the checkered cowling (not the easiest of decal jobs).
Keep posting pics - and keep up the good work!
Very nice start, the cockpit work is great. If you want to go aftermarket decals, there are hundreds of birds to choose from. But, the kit decals are pretty good and your choice would be a good one. Little Chief is probably the most modelled Razorback, thanks in part to the old Monogram kit which included that scheme OOB.
