P-47 decal advice needed

I am ready to decal my P-47 and need a little help. I want to apply the invasion stripes, but with the landing gear down this poses a little problem. A part of the stripe goes onto the gear cover and I can’t figure out a good way to put them on. The last time I tried it, I tried cutting the decal around the cover but ended up screwing it up beyond repair.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Why not mask and paint?

Just a thought.

If the kit decals are just one big piece for the bottom of the wing, apply the decal over the open wheel wells and trim away form the opening when they are dry. Put the doors in place as if retracted and mark the stripes and paint them on the doors.

What kit/sclae is it? I, or someone else, may have decals that they can spare. Let me know and I will have a look see.

I myself do not like using kit decals to duplicate stripes anywhere on a plane. They usally end up being a big pain in the butt. I prefer to paint fuselage and wing bands on rather than use the decals. Yes it is alot of work getting them masked off and straight but in the end it is well work it. Just my advice but I would glue the gear doors in the openings with elmers glue or something similar. Then paint the wings white before you lay down the main paint color. Then mask the white part of the stripe and spray the black color. Finally mask off your invasion stripes and paint the model. You should be able to gently pry the gear covers out of the openings when you are done. You might have to do a little clean up of the glue but it should come off pretty easy.
