i just started on this 1/48 academy p-38j. just wanna share em to ya. comments and suggestions are more than welcome. come to think of it, i do need help on the seat belts. can i ask for more detailed pics of the belts if any of you guys have one? i’d like to redo them cause right now this is somewhat a product of my imagination.
Looks great! Very nice work detailing the interior.
How did you do the seat cushion? I like that.
I think the belts look good. Mine always ended up looking like pieces of painted tape, so I just bought a set of P/E belts. But if i could do them as nicely as you’ve done- I’d not bother with P/E. I think they look great!
a product of your imagination huh?![%-)] yup, as wild as it may be[:-,][(-D] Looks good James Nuttin wrong
with them belts & the interior sure looks nice too
looks great sidewinder. is that cockpit oob or enhanced with homebuilt goodies? Seatbelts might be a touch wide - one thing I always forget is to think logically about the belts… the shoulder straps have to be the longest as they have to go up and over the shoulders, which uncluded a parachute strapped to the back, while the the waist belts only had to cross the lap of a very skinny pilot. something to ponder anyway. those horizontal ribs on the seat back look designed for comfort to… parachute I guess (hope!) keep us posted!
Very nice work! The detailling is excellent, and the belts are well done, I especially like the wire “D” ring fittings. They are a very nice touch! Thanks for posting, I’ll be watching for update pics as you progress, this is going to be one nice build!
I also thionk you did a great job on the pit. I also agree with one statement above in that the harnesses are a tad wide. I really like the way they are rendered and would be hard pressed to do similar. But if you take an appropiate sized figure you’ll see. And the lap belts need to be shorter.
James - your cockpit looks really nice. The seatbelts look pretty good - I agree that they might be a bit too wide but they’re much better than the belts that I’ve attempted on a few kits. How is the fit, etc of this kit - I’m almost done with the Hasegawa P-38J and was considering an Academy P-38 also. Looking forward to more pics! Thanks!
this is the academy 1/48 p-38j kit. actually you can do 4 versions fom it(p-38j,droopsnoot,pathfinder,photo recon) its actually a pretty nice kit. this is my 2nd academy p-38 kit coz i kinda messed up the 1st being it a phtoto recon kit as the original packaging then converted it to a p-38 fighter. now i can remodel the 1st kit after im done with this one[8D]. im planning to use the nose part from this kit to convert it to the droopsnoot variant. anyways, thanks for all the tips guys![:)][:)]i made the seatbelts from copper wire and masking tape. i rolled the copper wire around a small drill bit making a ring then inserting the cut masking tape through to make the strap. i then bent the ring to shape and painted it silver with gray straps. the cockpit is stock except for the cables, switches and knobs. the seat cushion is from the kit as well. i guess i’d have to size down the straps tonight when i come home from work, plus some other steps on the build, IF is stay awake much longer[|)]the wife will definitely be pleased that ill not be fightin over the remote for some nights[;)]
here are pics of a little progress with the devil. been tryin to spruce up the wheel well. not yet done, but im gettin there after a month’s hiatus. hope i can find more time tho, work has been really disrupting the more important things in life, modelling that is!!by the way, just a question, does anybody know what the interior color of the wheel well for the maru should be? interior green or bare metal? i can still repaint everything whatever the case may be. thanks all in advance![:D]
