p 38 model

how can i make revell’s 1/48 kit better?

i know i could use weathering, but, what else is there?

Have you checked out the resin and photo-etch offerings for the kit?

A good source to see what pthers have done is www.aircraftresourcecenter.com I’m sure others here on the forum can share their experiences, too.

Good luck and please post pictures of your progress.

Run Forest, Run!!

Sorry couldn’t resist.[:I]

Forest-I built this kit a couple of years ago when I dove back into modeling after a 35 year “leave of absence”. A fun build, but personally, I would build it ‘out of the box’ instead of pouring $$$$ into an ‘average’ kit and use that money to purchase a Hasegawa P-38 that has much more detail oob. Just my thoughts.

Adding to what Bob said, I have not personally built it, but Academy alos makes a line of P-38’s that have gotten good reviews. Not quite the level of the Hasegawa kit, but a huge improvement over the Revell offering. Another good site to chekc reviws for all kits is Modeling Madness.

Forest,

I’m rapidly coming to realize that the best way to “make a model look better” is to do the best job I can on the seams, and to make the paint and decals as smooth as possible. After that, weathering can help, but I don’t view it as necessary unless the plane is in a diorama (and even then not always [:)]).

Earlier this year, I came close to falling into the dark side – I finished a difficult build that turned out well, but then started planning one even more complicated that would require a lot of aftermarket stuff, including model railroad lights.

Reality finally set it and I decided that a simpler build of something already in my stash was a better move. My challenge to myself is to really finish this build well and maybe do a little weathering.

As for the Revell-Monogram P-38, check out this build at the Aircraft Resource Center site. It’s a good example of an almost out of the box build with just a wee bit of inexpensive scratchbuilding.
