how do u get over spray off clear plastic parts safely, i pre- soaked the plastic parts in future then masked and a little over-spray got on one of the edges
Is this color you were spraying, or a clearcoat? If a color coat, you can try sanding with very fine sandpaper. When the paint is removed, you’ll have some fog left on the surface, which has to be polished out with finer and finer sandpaper. However, the discovery of the effects of future means you do not have to polish it completely clear like we had to do in the old days. By the time you get to 1000 or 1200 grit, then applying future again clears up the fog.
If it was a clear coat that got on the transparency, and it is an older aircraft, you may not have to remove it. Older aircraft had canopies that fogged quickly if left outdoors and many old aircraft had pretty foggy canopies, depending on how frequently the ground crews could repolish them.
The first thing I would try is to remove the Future undercoat on the clear part, which will take the overspray with it… Use a Q-tip dipped in ammonia (Windex) and scrub at it. That should do it, then reapply the Future.
Another thing good for getting paint off of clear parts is a cocktail stick. The wood is softer that the plastic so won’t mark it but the friction created by rubbing on the paint is enough to get the paint off. I have cleaned up several canopies using this method.
I had to clean paint (Gunze Sangyo clear green) off of a clear window part before too.
I used this stuff -
polished and polished until it was off…
It worked! ![]()
Then dipped into Future and it was good as new again
hope your repair is successful
