Score!!! I went out to get the mail today and I noticed my neighbor had put a bunch of stuff on the curb for bulk trash week. It caught my eye as I noticed a stack of models. I went over and asked them if I could grab them. They said yes.
23 models. Many were in my wishlist. Some aren’t on my list or the scale I like to work in. But I couldn’t pass up free models.
I wonder how often stuff like that happens and no one grabs them. I often ask people running garage sales if they have any, a lot of times they do but didn’t think anyone would want them so they weren’t put out for sale.
All but two of the models are all there. The F86 Sabre was already built and in poor condition. The helicopter was also built. 5 are still in shrink wrap. Almost all of the open ones still have all the sore in their bags.
I went through the whole new stash. There were twenty-three models. Three were trash, they had already mostly completed them
And they didn’t do a good job. These were the A6, The police helicopter and the Sabre. These were done by my neighbors kids. They high school or younger. So I can’t say much as I wasn’t that great of a modeler back then.
There were five kits NIB. Including three that were on my wishlist. The DH-2 was my score of the day.
The Abrams, the battleship and C-130 were started. But I believe I can salvage them. Hopefully. What’s the best way to unglue parts? LOL
I’m not big on 1/72 or 1/144 scale. But can’t price was right.
Also there are some subject items that I’m not big on. The figures and the hot rod to name a couple. But again. They were free and it gives me a chance to do something I’ve not done before.
The funny thing about the C-130 is I’m currently working in the same model but the AC-130. Basically the same Italeri kit. Too funny.
Great score! And good on you for adopting rescue models
I’ve had some luck separating glued parts by leaving them in the freezer for a few days. They crack apart - but I suppose that depends on the adhesive used.
I tried putting glued parts in the freezer overnight and the next morning I was able to pry them apart. Depends on what type of glue and how much they used.
I have to admit. I was skeptical about trying this. I put the part in the freezer overnight. The parts just popped apart. I put the rest of the parts in the freezer so I can start from scratch.
I’m really looking forward to completing it. My youngest is a huge fan of tractors so this will take up space on a bookshelf in his room. I hope I don’t have to fix it too many times.
