Our Latest Acquisitions 2017-2025

Nice haul there Steve. I am off to visit the Belfast on Sat, hopeflly i’ll get inspired to get mine finished.

How cool is that? I’ve got to get over there for several reasons including the Belfast and Victory.

I am ashamed to say this, but i have never visited Victory, but its on my list. We are off to the Tower after the Belfast, best make sure i don’t leave the Mrs there [;)]

Bagged this from ebay UK…

I have just watched the Nat Geo channel on Sky where they talk about draining the Bermuda Triangle. They centre on Flight 19 on the 5th December 1945 out of Fort Lauderdale and that the flight of 5 planes disappeared soon afterwards. I’ve found various pictures on the net of the flight/planes and their markings. The problem I have is, as the pictures are in black and white, what is the aircraft colourway, black, dark blue?

From what research I have done this is a depiction of the flight with correct markings?

Those are awesome guys, love those ship models.

PatW: No idea on the camo/markings but I love the idea of doing them as the vanished flight.

BTW: The seals went bad in my current airbrush and I’ve been constantly cleaning it. So I finally broke down and bought a new one. I loved my last Paasche airbrush so I hope this one works as well.

Looks like everyone is getting some good purchases.

Got an old Tamiya M3 Lee off eBay last week, yes there are better kits out there but I have my reason. I “attempted” to build one my first year into the hobby and for whatever reason had a really hard time with it and it ended up smashing against a wall. I really want to take another crack at it as the Lee is the only tank model I’ve given up on.

To my surprise I’ve finally got my grail kit the Dragon Sd.kfz 234/2 Puma. I’ve been trying to acquire one since the start of the year and could never find one at swap meets and the ones I’ve tried to win on eBay I’ve always lost. I realize in terms of grail kits it’s not that special but I’ve always liked how the vehicle looked. Never liked how the Italeri kit looked so just waited till I could get the Dragon one at a reasonable price.

Greysnake,

That M3 Lee was my first Taimiya armor kit! One of my father’s friends gave it to me for Christmas back in 1976 or so. I had no knowlege of Tamiya until I laid eyes on that kit - and I was stunned at the overall quality of the parts, packaging, and instructions. And I stretched my first sprue antenna for that kit! I have been a fan ever since.

This showed up yesterday:

It is meant to replace the nose of the awful Airfix 1/48 B-57G. The kit’s chin sensor fairing is about half the actual width, the cockpit is complete fiction, and the forward fuselage has a weird bulged contour. This resin set by Dmold from Russia replaces the entire forward fuselage, including the cockpit and transparencies. Overall molding of the parts looks good on initial inspection, but the clear parts are slightly cloudy and have some marks which will need to be sanded/polished out. That’s not a really serious gripe, as I know how incredibly hard it is to cast perfect clear parts. The kit’s seats and control stick are to be used, but I already have appropriate resin seats.

And from Latvia comes the base kit I needed to do the JASDF E-767 AWACS conversion:

I immediately noticed the flexy clear window strips, apparently a Zvezda thing in their airliner kits. No matter, as I will fill in the window openings with strip plastic and putty. Now to do a little research on the antennas the plane used, as Zvezda surprisingly does not include any at all!

Popped into the LHS today to grab some paint. I had not planned on getting the new Airfix Buccaneer just yet. But you know how it is, i saw the kit and it just started screaming at me begging to be bought. What else can you do but give in [:D]

Looks very nice and at least it doens’t have as many stencils as the Phantom. And knowing Airfix, there is sure to be an RAF version out next year.

Bish,

You have got to put that Bucc on your Airfix GB! It’s such an iconic British a/c. Me, I’m a 1980s RAF wraparound camo kind of guy, but the Bucc looks handsome in EDSG as well!

I wish i could G but the bench is already full for the year and i will be waiting for any AM to be released. I would guess the RAF version would come with the wraparound scheme, as well as a Gulf War option. That would certainly fit in with what Airfix have been doing the last few years, such as the Phantom kit.

I know what you mean there…still trying to get the teeth marks in my ankle to heal from the 1/24 Hellcat.[;)]

Went to our “Nordiccon” contest this last weekend and got all these in the raffle. Did pretty good I think.

The stash just got bigger, now I have to live longer to finish these.

John

What British a/c fans need from the aftermarket boys (or better yet the kit manufacturer) are tampo printed det cords in the canopy. Decals show unsightly film, P/E is nigh impossible to fit and securely attach, and applying vinyl cut det cords are like pushing spaghetti up a hill.

The technology is already developed, and has proven that thin white lines can be printed with precision and opacity to handle even dark colors underneath. So who will be the first to offer this feature?

BTW Bish, was the Buccaneer the one where they tipped it on its tail to launch off the catapult? It would make a great diorama. Hint-hint. [;)]

Wow, quite the score John. [Y] Where are the ships? [;)]

G, ye, that would be nice. On the Airfix Harriers i think they are raised lines.

As for being tipped on the tail not that what i can see in pics. The Bucc was designed to operate from the smaller British carriers. You might be thinking of the Phantom which had an extended front undercarrage leg to allow it to take off.

Bish,

No, I meant the aircraft tipped, like a model that needs nose weight. I thought I saw photos of Buccs being launched this way. Stubby wings, even with full span blowing, are stubby wings. But that small area wing is what gave the Bucc blazing speed down in the weeds.

I look forward to an RAF boxing - 2020 perhaps.

Modelcrazy,

by looking at your post I think you got all the targets! I mean ships. Lol

John

I forgot this one, it’s the only one I paid for. I want to get Academy’s 1/72 scale version but can’t find it here in the states. So this 1/48 kit will do for now. I have hasegawa’s 1/32 version but it’s really big.

John

Got ur, i know what you mean now.

Ye, i reckon next year. Once the RAF Phantom FG.1 comes out, that will be 3 Phantoms in 2 years. I don’t think they will waste much time getting out an RAF Bucc. And with the 30th anniversary of Op Granby coming up in 2021, it will be perfect timing.
