As far as I know the are only 4 classes of modern DD’s avaliable in 1/1250, 1/700 and 1/350 scales.
The only ones you can get, that I’m aware of off hand, are the Spruance from Dragon in 1/700, decent kit and a Hobby Boss in 1/1250, I don’t know anything about that one. There is a Cyber Hobby 1/700 with Delta III but I don’t believe it is produced anymore. In 1/350 Dragon made a decent one and Trumepter makes a fair one, both would profit from PE.
The Oliver Hazard Perry, Academy and AFV Club both make a 1/350. I don’t know anything about them.
The Arleigh Burke. Hobby Boss in 1/700 and Trumpeter in 1/350. Both have several ship names. I understand that any of them are a decent kit
And the Kidd, made in 1/1250 by Hobby Boss.
I’m sure there are more but you would need to do some research.
Of all those I would go with the Arleigh Burke.
I have the old Dragon Spruance that I stole for $25 plus shipping on eBay recently and they can still be found for various prices but usually around $40
The 1999 Arliegh Burke became the Hobby Boss and isn’t in production. If you can find one it’s probably on par with the Trumpy kit. The Spruance is now the Dragon kit. The only other Revell US DD’s from are from WW2 as far as I know, the Buckly, Fletcher and the John Paul Jones, being old molds and not produced any longer either. That being said Revell has modern Russian and British ships, not DD’s, which are probably worth the money spent. Most of their line was sold to Hobby Boss, Trumpeter and Cyber Hobby so anything Revell will be all there is.
Hmmm, maybe I should rethink building that Revell Bismark
The other Revell modern inventory was, the OHP (Frigate) and the Ticonderoga (cruiser), again, now Dragon kits.
Absolutely thrilled with my newest addition. Czech Master 1/72 resin Martin AM-1 Mauler. This is my first all resin kit so, this will be an experience. The added excitement about getting this kit is that my father actually got to fly this aircraft while in the Naval Reserves.
Thats not a subject i am familiar with. Nice find.
I have 3 resin aircraft kits in the stahs but not built one yet, though i will be doing a resin 35th vehicle build next year. I have built a couple of 1/18th resin engines and they were nice, just have to remember to check fit and be certain its in the right place before glueing.
The AM-1 was developed as a replacement for the SB2C Helldiver. But, due to Maintenance and carrier landing issues it was replaced with the A-1 Skyraider. The unique thing about the Mauler is that it holds the record for largest payload carried by a single engine aircraft.
Joe: Yeah that Mauler is awesome! There’s one at the US Navy Aviation museum in Pensacola Florida. It’s a friggin’ gigantic aircraft. I love all those weird off the wall aircraft like the Consolidated TBD Sea Wolf and the Douglas BTD Destroyer and XTB2D Skypirate that never really went anywhere.
Well it’s sorta a model- a 3D printed copy of my Romulan Star Republic Aelahl Light Warbird battlecruiser. She came already painted, pretty darn well but no lighted bits for the impulse engines or other glowy bits. I’m thinking of painting them a silver or white with a little translucent green.
Got this from ebay UK for £5.99, no box, no instructions, so found the instructions on one I built about 18 months ago, reduced them and printed all on two sides of an A4 sheet of paper.
I’ve left off aerials, rear wing and decals, to copy this, roadgoing version…
