OTTO CARIUS tank??

i picked up otto’s tank from tamiya and ive just finished reading tigers in the mud i was under the impression that otto had an early tiger not a mid coz all the pics ive seen of otto is of him with a early version not a mid i need some help here guys thanks again Az

Otto primarily used a mid-production version…[;)]

I guess he had his early version out for servicing thus he had been issue with new tank as he mention on the bk …

did you read the bit where his cupola was shot of on his early and they replaced it with the new type
he wasinside the turret when it was hit, the cupola wsas torn clean off

“Tigers in the Mud”…terrific book. Two other books worth every penny are Jean Restayn’s “Tigers on the Eastern Front” and “Tigers on the Western Front”.

Okieboy

Yes it is a great book, and I am almost finished with it![:(]
His firts tank was an early. But, I am guessing after he got it blown off by that arty round that he might have gotten a new tank.
There is one pic in the book that shows him with the new coupala, no sure if this a new tank though.

basicaly the Tamiya kit is of his mid tiger
there are photos in the book of his mid, and the photo of him and his crew posing the same as Tamiya have them is his mid tiger

Just to add my [2c]…first, great book. Finished it quite quickly. Second, I would agree that it was a mid production. He does talk about how the cupola was shot off and replaced. That would be something neat to make on the kit. Just MHO.

The frustrating thing is that there are good photos of his early Tiger but I can’t find photos of the mid production Tiger other than the one with him in the cupola. Are there any good photos of his mid production Tiger out there? I’m thinking about building the early version because I do have those photos.

Here is Otto Carius in his midproduction Tiger I No. 217 (scroll about halfway down):

This might be the same photograph referenced in another post on this thread, with Otto Carius in the cupola.

Hi! I know know Otto Carius personally since I was a kid, he lives in the village where i grew up. My parents still live there… I couldn’t imagine that so many people are interested in his book…

Its a great book, he has a great story to tell

i would agree that he has a story to tell. i read the book, and it contained quite alot of good info. one of the better historical books that i have read. (and i read alot, too)

Sammy P, There are a lot of us who would like any photos of Ottos mid Production Tiger. There are so few around. Sometime in the future, if you see Mr Carious, could you see if he has any mid production photos that could be shared on the internet. Thanks, Greg.

Very interesting. Yes Sammy P, please share some pictures of him and his tank if possible.

be warned sammy-p, these guys are really otto their minds-with craziness about this tank ace, that lives nearby, they will pick you to the bone…lol armor modelers these days
