I started this kit last year for the “War in the Pacific” GB here. As usual, I took my sweet time building (read dawdled) this kit. I know there are three newer tooled kits on the market these days, but when I added this one to the stash, this was the only F6F-3 in 1/48 in town. I added detail in the cockpit and replaced the kit seat with a resin one from True Details. I also added supercharger ducting and intake screening to the cowl scoop. I finished her in the markings of VF-27 off USS Princeton the time of her loss during the Battle of Leyte Gulf in Oct, 1944. I used various brands for the tri color camo, and Aeromaster decals. Panel lines were brought out with Promodeler wash and Tamiya weathering pastels for the exhaust and gun stains. She took 1st place last night in the advanced category for IPMS OC.

Thank you guys! For the price, you really can not complain about the old Otaki kits. Especially when one considers the vintage of them. If you want to dress them up a bit, they can really be made in to a nice kit. A little work on the cockpit, engine if its a radial, and landing gear and these kits really can shine. I am gonna kick off on their FW-190 kit next…should be done in a year or so…[whstl] I have several in the stash, some Arii/Otaki, and few that were later reissued by other companies such as AMT or even Airfix (F4U).
