Well, looks like I’m gonna be a dad…times two. Instant family!
(faints)
So that’s the good news, plus this means we’ll have to move out of our condo and buy a house next year, which means that I might actually have space to set up a year-round workbench.
Bad news: I’m having twins, so it’ll probably be several years before I have the time or energy to return to modeling. I’m not sure how you guys with young kids find the time.
In any event, hope to squeeze in a couple more builds this spring/summer before my life turns complete upside down, and then I’ll have to bid modeling adieu for a while.
Congrats! My excuse to keep building was to hang the finished kits from the boys bedroom ceilings. I was able to build one or two kits a year. Eventually my boys became interested in building. My 15 year old has become an accomplished builder with the help of this forum! My 10 year old still doesn’t have the engough interest to finish builds he starts. Anyway now I have someone who shares my interest in the house and I can build for myself again.
Congrats!! It’s a blessing and a curse. We had ours when we were young (21/22) and could still handle the lack of sleep. It was a major juggeling act. We both worked, a had band practice 2 nights a week, we played out 3-4 times a month, the little one would only sleep 2 hrs at a time( 2 on 2 off) so all my building was done in the middle of the night. A couple years ago my wife was bugging me for another one, I got her a puppy! (you don’t get in trouble for chaining them in the backyard from time to time). Again, congrats!!! Once they show up, things only get better from then on out.
That is some great news, and I am very happy for you. Even if you are unable to build down the road, please do still pop by when you have a second and say hi.
Congrats to you and your good lady on the Twins, This my friend is where life changes big time, AND through thick and thin you’ll love every minute of it. Mine are mid teens now and looking back I have the happiest memories of my life because of them. As for modeling time. you’ll manage a few hours here and there through the week whilst they are babies but as they get older and are sleeping through the night and get potty trained etc you will again have more time to attack the plastic. Again congrats on these two ‘scratch-builds’ And as posted above. when they arrive we want piccies
That’s awesome news Porkbits. [tup][tup] …and twins to boot. Better give you another two thumbs up [tup][tup]! Mine are ages 9 to 15 yrs old. The time flies by so enjoy it while you can. The models will still be there for you later when things start to settle down.
I’d like to think that I’m Captain Potent, but in this case, have to give all the credit to Medical Science.
And unfortunately, me and the mrs. do NOT have The Energy of Youth on our side. I’m pushing forty, so the first few months are going to be pure you-know-what, and probably the next few years as well. We’ll need all the help and energy we can muster.
So right now, I’m looking at my stash, trying to pick out one, last good build. Something suitable as a last hurrah…hm.
Congrats! As said above, it really is a blessing and a curse, but worth it. I used this trick with each of my boys to find to build. Build a kit for each of them, and paint they’re names on eqach one. I have a mustang named “Lil Anthony” and a corsair named “Bryces Byrd”. Each kit was built right after they’re births, I got to build kits, and my wife thought it was a cute idea. Plus it’s a very early start at intriducing them to airplanes. My six tear old can identify P-51’s, B-17’s, lancaster’s, spitfires and hurricanes, makes me proud.
If we have another kid and it’s a girl, I’ll do a pink P-51.
Lemme tell ya - they’ll be the most incredible source of frustration, but that’ll be SO outweighed by them being the most amazing source of joy…you have NO idea…I’ve heard it said a thousand times that the first time you hold your newborn is such an incredibly profound, life affirming moment…but until you DO it, it means nothing. Believe me, you’ll be stunned…utterly stunned.
I’ve been blessed enough to enjoy that gift twice, and I simply couldn’t imagine my life without them - the world would be a cold, soulless place without my two beautiful girls.
Alright!!! All my kind thoughts go out to you and your good lady, and your two little babies.
The ultrasound we had yesterday was already amazing enough…seeing both teeny little hearts beating away furiously gave me chills. I can’t imagine what it’ll be like to actually hold them…both (I really can’t!).
Congratulations and best wishes to you and the family. A quiet word of advice. Spend as much time as possible pampering your wife during her pregnancy. She will really appreciate it and love you even more.
Congratulations! Actually, I wouldn’t say “good news and bad news”, I’d say, that’s good news and better news! Who knows-that extra kid could grow up to cure cancer one day.
Congrats man. With two young children myself, it’s really not that hard to find the time. Maybe just modify your location of building.
Personally for me, my computer desk doubles as my workbench. Which is here in the bedroom. The baby sleeps in here with us, and in the evening me and the wife like to watch a bit of TV before bed. I surf the net a bit, build a bit, and watch TV with the wife while she gets the baby asleep. It’s not very long, but you can get a surprising amount done in a short time.
I actually found I had MORE time for modeling when the kids came. We spend more time at home now. It’s possible to combine model building with other activities. Be creative. If you are watching the kids, while they are sleeping, bring out some newspaper, a sanding stick, some glue, and sprue nippers. Learn to model minimalistically.
More congratulations to you. Get some sleep now because it will be about 18 years before there is peace and quiet again. My 5 kids are all grown up and married and most of them actually have moved out - lol.
This is what life is all about - when you’re dead and gone you will have left more than hunks of plastic behind.
