Opinions on StuG IV kits???

What is everyones opinion on a decent StuG IV kit?? Tamiya?, Academy?, DML?? I have developed a desire to build one and am not sure which kit to try and pursue. Bless me with all of your infinite wisdom here!![bow]

I’ve heard the Tamiya kit is not a great choice because it was once motorized and is dimensionally off.

Ahh, I wonder what is dimensionally off on the Tamiya kit?? Is it major, minor? Not really worried about it being motorized once, my recent Jagdpanzer build was also designed to be motorized but turned into a gem with a little love!

I guess if that doesn’t bother you (nor does it me) then which ever one you want and think is the best deal.

DML is supposed to have a ‘final’ version of the Stug IV come out … someday. [xx(]

I also saw the DML final but wondered when it would ever reach the market. I think I recall seeing this one advertised a while back.

I dont mind the motorization as long as accuracy doesnt suffer so much that it cant be corrected. The only thing I saw on their Jagdpanzer IV that suffered in accuracy due to the motorization was the drive sprocket which seemed to be a little beefier than it should have been. Things like that to me arent too big of a deal, just swapped out with one from a newer Tamiya kit. Thanks for the input Panther F!!

Actually, the old Italeri one is quite a fine kit of you can find it.

The DML ones are pretty sweet too. I’ve built one, and I really enjoyed the kit!

The Tamiya one shows its age, but can be built up fairly quickly.

I just built the Dragon Stug IV Late for the Urban Armor GB. All in all it was a fun build. Not, IMHO, the best DML has every done. Lots of little PITAs… still, not a bad kit. I also have the Academy Stug IV in my stash. Looks to be a good kit as well.

I built the Italeri and it was pretty nice. Seperate schurzen plates too! I think the Academy kit was a Tamiya knock-off.

The old Italeri StuG IV kit is a very nice build. I did one about 12 years ago and was quite happy with the results. The schurzen are very well done and aside from perhaps wanting to replace the tracks, it holds up very nicely. I have a Dragon final production STG IV in the stash, but have not yet tackled it.

Depends of what you want… Tamiya has the flat undetailed underside shared by their early Panzer IV serie… but might be way cheaper than the rest…

My money went on the old Tamiya kit… I’ve got an Italeri in the closet, but I have no plans for it as of yet. Truth be told, I’ve been building up for the winter on Ebay and in the last month and half, aquired about 80 kits… Personally, I like m’ old favorites from the 60’s, 70’s, & 80’s so, with a few exceptions from AFV Club, I’ve pretty much ignored anything with a newer release than 1988, lol…

Thanks for the input everyone!! I have lucked up and found the DML Late and picked it up for 28 bucks shipped!! Also picking up the LionRoar PE set for it and will dress it out in GvB dress!!
