My latest project is a Warrior ICV (Infantry Command Vehicle) March '03, Basrah, Iraq. I used the Academy Op Telic Warrior kit and Accurate Armour’s ICV conversion. The Accurate Armour set is to their usual excellent standard. The main diferance between an ICV and a MCV is the rear door setup. The ICV has two smaller doors as opposed to the MCV’s one large door.
For gear, I used some of the pieces from the Academy kit, some from the AA set, and some from the spares box. I also used some British ration boxes and water boxes that I printed off myself. The placards on the ammo cans were also decals that I made from ammo placard images lifted off the web. The nets on the sides were done using thin graphics arts tape, and were a real B!^@H to make. They came out looking great, but I don’t want to do them again for a while.
It also has Bison’s Op Telic Warrior decals. The vehicle is the same as in the Academy kit decals, but they got it wrong. Academy has 08 on the sides and rear, when it should be 0B as on the Bison sheet.
The model is a farewell gift for our British Exchange Officer here at the NTC and is his vehicle from Iraq, where he was an Infantry Company Commander. It will be put on a base with a road and a sign to Basrah.
Very nice build! Great work! Personally, I think it could do with some more weatherin’, but havin’ said that, how do you weather a sand coloured vehicle, representin’ a sandy environment, in a sandy, desert theatre of war! Not much scope there, methinks!
Looks good and Im sure the diorama will look fantastic as well.
Just curious as to the colour discrepancy between the real versus the model. The real one looks more beige whereas the model looks like it has a more orangish/ yellowish hue. Is that due to a wash or perhaps a product of the photography (i.e. lighting?)
The color is closer to the actual pic than it is to the oranegish hue in the pics here. I think it is a lighting thing. If you look at the pic of the rear of the vehicle, it is closer to the actual color.
Do you ever keep up with how many hours you put into a project? If so how many hours in this one? Cause this would take me 6 months or more to build. Looks great!! nice job.
The flag is a unit ID flag and is red/ white checked. According to the Brit I am building it for, each Company had a different color/pattern.
As to how many hours, I don’t really keep track. I have been working on it for about 2 weeks pretty heavily though, since I am moving soon and needed to get it done.
Looks Fantastic, a great job well done on this one. So, where are you moving to at this time, is it a Military thing, or just something ya’ll are doing. you and PM me if you like about this one.
Thanks, glad you like it. For the nets, I first attached the gear to the side of the vehicle. Then I attached individual horizontal pieces of the graphics art tape at one end to a bolt head, spread it across the gear, then glued it at the opposite end. Same for the verticle ones. Where the two crossed was also glued together. Once it was all done, it looks like a net. Took a while, but it did come out looking great.
