Well, as I was mentioning in a previous thread for those who have been following this, the tracks for my Type 74 are too big and will need to be cut down and resized.
I started my Type 90 and test fit the tracks to see if I had inadvertantly switched them when I was looking inside the boxes. No such luck.
here’s the lower hull built up and drying:
Once it was dry, I took the Type 90 tracks from the box and test-fit them loosely to see if they would fit. They will be a perfect fit:
I also started on the turret while waiting for the wheels to dry enough to test fit the tracks. I got to the part where I’m supposed to put on part number D-1. I had a momentary period of panic set in when I realiozed there was no ‘D’ sprue! Then I remembered something; this was on the end of the tracks:
Whew Relief! That was the part that goes on the turret above the main gun, as shown here:
I also decided to start another kit that had been calling my name; the French VAB 4x4 from Heller in 1/72 scale. Here is the lower hull assembled and ready for paint:
Here is the upper hull being test fit to the lower hull. I had just started the upper hull with the addition of a few parts when I took a break:
I did start a couple more aircraft as well, while touching up some work on my C-119; but those are for another Forum! [;)]
Nice work on the “Japanese Leopard” there Duke. [;)] (Tongue in cheek) Just kidding that was uncalled for even though both are not battle proven still very cool tanks [tup] The heller kit doesn’t look too bad. Nice paint work will make it a fine model.
Thanks I-beam! I agree, it does look like the German Leopard. I’m wondering if they had gotten soome help from the Bundeswehr when they decided to replace the Type 74. I did think that the Leopard was ‘battle tested’ so to speak, since some were supposedly deployed to Bosnia/Kosovo during that conflict. I guess maybe they weren’t actually used against enemy armor.
M60a3, yeah, this VAB is fun, and a breeze to put together! I am so glad I finally got one, since I’d been trying for months.I should be finished with this one pretty fast.
Oh, and here are a few more pics of some more progress:
I painted the lower hulls of the two Japanese tanks I’m working on, and put the tracks on the Type 90. Here they are, with the upper hull on the Type 90 to see how it fits over the tracks:
Type 74:
Type 90:
If figures that the one tank where the tracks do NOT fit is the one that has NO SIDE SKIRTS! [:(!][banghead]
Here is the Revell/Germany Humvee that I’ve also been building. It’s going together like a dream, although some of the smaller parts are pretty daunting.
