So I get out to the Silent Wings Museum here in Lubbock to finish up an exhibit I’ve been working on this morning, and I pull into the parking lot and notice rotor blades sticking out from behind the museum building… The museum abuts the west ramp of Lubbock International Airport, so there are active aircraft all around the museum. But, upon closer inspection, I was able to get a look at the rotor mast… at which point a little voice inside shrieked with glee. Yup, it was an AH-64A.
So, I ran into the museum and got out to the ramp, where I saw not one, but THREE Idaho NG AH-64As and two UH-60As. Needless to say I got a bunch of great pics. But that’s not the end! They took off around 1100hrs, just in time for a C-17 to land carrying… one of the Presidential helicopters! They should have it offloaded now (I’m on lunch break now, but hope to get a bunch of pics of it when I get back.
In any case, I’m gonna try posting the Apache pics when I get them downloaded from the camera at the museum.
Sounds very cool, Jon! I was delivering to a food storage warehouse in Camp Grayling this summer and was blessed by the sight of not one, but three Black Hawks screaming by at a click above treetop level. I was one happy little camper as that was the first time I’d seen a Black Hawk in person.
Man you guys over there in USA have all the good stuff!!!
I went to a airshow last weekend here in Australia and was stoked to see a old S70A-9 Blackhawk, Bell Kiiowa & the Iroquois. But hey there’s nothing wrong with them hey??
I hope to go to the Avlon International Airshow next year it’s held in Adelaid Australia !! Thats where we can only see all the good stuff
Hey don’t get me wrong i’m not knocking the Australians stuff. Anyway it was great and it was the first time i got too see the F-111s do their famous fuel dump got some pretty good pics aswell. hope to get them to yas all if i can work out how to do it.
Thanks
Robert
Crap, I got delayed and missed Marine One!
Anyhow, I’ve got plenty of Apache shots. Will download them next wednesday when I get out to the museum again.
Awesome dude I wish I could have been there. I havn’t really seen a Blackhawk in person and also an Apache. I want to be a pilot someday and helicopters just amuse me. Thanks for sharing.
