My Uncle sent me this kit which he said was pretty uncommon. This is my next build. I just lack some primer before I get started. Me and my uncle who has been building models for 30 years were talking. I was telling him about the model tank I was building (Leopard2 A5). I expressed an interest in some WWII German armor and aircraft. Told him I wanted to build a Messerschmitt. I wasn’t expecting this one. This baby has a 50mm gun on the nose! Icludes metal landing gear and some photo-etch.
Any recomendations? Anyone build this kit before? This is my first Airplane.
Check out the group build for the Me 262. I’ve included links to lots of color & period photos.
Be prepared for some fit issues. I’ve included some pics there for ways to make the build go more smoothly. The stainless steel PE parts require a little more care than brass. They are harder to remove from the fret and bend. The white metal gear retractors need careful removal of the mold seam. When finished, they are beautiful kits. Have fun with this one. Take your time, and dry fit everything.
Looking forward to hearing your progress on the kit !
Hi there Serverfarmer. What a way to start modeling airplanes: a Trimaster kit! They have been out of production for a number of years now (company went bust), but you may be familiar with more recent reissues of the same molds by Dragon. I’m not sure they also did this specific version, but I have a nightfighter variant lying around somewhere (can’t find the box [:(]). The original Trimaster offering is a bit nicer, with the white metal landing gear and more photo-etch parts. Also it is older, so the molding may be a litter crisper?
Anyhow, have you had any experience with etched metal and white metal parts? If not, a few pointers from guys doing 262s (or other mm-kits) might save you some time. One little tip from me: heating the photo-etched parts in a candle-flame reduces the springyness, and lets you bend them easily. If that’s what you need: they loose some strength.
In case this is old news to ya, because you’ve been buiding shipmodels for a decade or two, please don’t feel offended. Happy modeling!
Wow… A trimaster kit. I’ve never had the luck to find one, let along build one! That’s some plane you have there! Man, the Nazis came up with some pretty funky stuff!
