OLd School 1/72 Mavis

Just started this old school low detail Mavis.

This should be nice! Sometimes “old school” is the only game in town.

We shall see!The cockpit is almost devoid of detail but the fuselage halves fit fairly well.(Some bodywork will be necessary to eliminate seams.)

Very Cool! I have that kit in my stash and every once in a while I give it a glance and consider giving it a whirl. You’re off to a nice start and I am looking forward to watching you build up this sweet flying boat.

yeah i have had it for several years.

judging by the box art, I would say you have had it for several decades. Or at least it sat in a store for that long.

Same here.

I got on the Bay about 10 years ago for 12 bucks!

Good find!

Flying boats are my fav subject and this one is very cool. I may hafta break down and make this my first Japanese kit.

Yes it looks pretty cool!

Even in 1/72 this plane the wingspan is about 22 in. Out of curiosity went looking to see if a 1/48 version exist. Couldn’t find it. This is one huge airplane and beautiful, too. Can’t wait to see your final.

Combat models made a vac form 1/48 version but they can be a little hard to find.

Took care of the top seam(I will do the same on the bottom) little filler required.

Are the panel lines raised or not? I can’t tell in the pics

They are flat with many raised rivets.I like them and will not sand them off.

Now that is one kit I cannot recall seeing at a swap meet lately.

I remember seeing it in hobby shops during the early 1970s, though.[^o)]

.

Looking forward to following your build thread.[:D]

Looking good so far! I’ll be keeping an eye on this one! Raymond

I had some trouble with the rear control surfaces. The slots for the vertical stabilizers were too shallow so I had to grind the tabs off so that they would fit semi flush. The tabs for the horizontal stabilizers were too thick to fit the slots in the fuselage so I thinned them with my Dremel.

Mounted up the wing pylons making careful note of how they fit in the lower wing.Masked and installed the rear glass.Next up;i have to tackle the side blisters and main canopy section.
