Here I go again, I actually had this Tamiya 1/48th F4F-4 kit almost finished in wartime colors, and, I decided to convert it to a -3 in pre-war “yellow wings” markings. I stripped off all the paint and went for it!
I’m still waiting for the decals so she’s not quite finished. Highlights: I had to sand, fill and rescribe the wings to get rid of the wing fold and the 3rd/6th .50 cals, I just noticed that I forgot to get rid of the ejection chutes- I’ll have to think on this one. I also drilled the windshield for the telescopic sight. I post again when I get the decals…I didn’t use any conversions and all the striping etc. is airbrushed, finish is Alclad ll duraluminum and Gunze acrylics…
Regards,
Steve

That’s a mighty fine looking Wildcat. Nice work

Steve - looks great!!! I love that kit, I’ve done one F4F as a Martlet Mk.I and about to start on a Martlet Mk.III for the N. Africa GB. I love those prewar finishes.
Thanks, this was a very difficult paint job, probably the hardest I’ve ever attempted.
I love the prewar Navy aircraft. Some of the most colorful military aircraft ever. Very nice work on this one. Thanks for sharing.
