Thanks to you out there I was able to find and purchase from Ebay a WACO 1/72 Glider. It seems 1/72 is smaller than I remember ! Maybe it’s just me ? ! ? The kit was manufactured in 1976. I have never heard of painting old decals with Future until I saw it here. Are these considered Old ? I don’t mean for that to be a stupid question. Does Future really help and how many coats ? Thanks in advance for your response.
I know that some advocate using future for this, but I think you might manage just as well using any matte (or gloss if desired) fixative whether it be dedicated decal fixative or just a clearcoat. The idea is that you would prevent the old decals from disintegrating(as they sometimes tend to do.)by overcoating the decals with the clearcoat.
A single coat of Future airbrushed will work but I prefer to use Testors spray decal fixative.
Remember too that you will need to cut out the decal as close to the ink as possible because you’ve in effect created a new carrier film- thats continuous.
I guess my question would be: it bound to be a simple scheme and might be as easy to scrounge up if you have a supply of US decals?
I just brush on a coat of Microscale liquid decal film. I was never convinced that this stuff would actually work, but I tried it on a decal sheet from 1969 (Aurora C-141) and it worked beautifully. After overcoating with Future, the decals look beautiful!
