Old Corsair II kit

I remember one Christmas morning, back when I was about 11 or 12 - I opened a present and it was a 1/32 Corsair II kit. Later that day when my aunt and uncle came over they gave me the exact same kit. What a downer that was - such a huge box and it was something I already had (if only for a few hours). At that age it’s hard to hide your disappointment, even though I tried to cover it up. What I can’t remember is, though - what company made the kit. I do remember it was a tan color - like a dark mustard. I know it’s not much to go on, but it was around 1971 or 72 I believe. Does anyone know who would have made that kit? I’d like to see if I can locate one and give it a go.

An A-7 Corsair II in 1/32? I didn’t know there was one until just recently when Trumpeter did the Corsair II in that scale.

Never heard of a previous 1/32 Corsair II?? Just the one by Trumpeter. Now I know the old F4U Corsair by Revell have been around since the late 60’s.

Sounds like the old Aurora Kit. It was 1/48th but may have seemed huge if you were just a young boy back then. I didn’t buy it but heard their kits were in “weird” colors and the boxes were big! I did buy it after Monogram purchased the mold and reissued it. Of course I didn’t know that when I bought it!

Thanks, Mel -

I looked for it in 1/32 on oldmodelkits.com and found nothing - looking just now for one in 1/48, the box art looks very familiar. I imagine the fact that I was smaller, added to the fact that Aurora liked to use larger-than-average boxes, would have that effect on my recollection. If only I’d kept one of them!
