Old Academy Whireblewind

Hey all.
Been playin’ around with the old Academy kit that I got real cheap. Yes , I know it’s an old knock-off of an old Tamiya. I guess for this reason I decided to play. At first I was gonna get a detail set for it but since I got because it was cheap I decided to use stuff I already had around. I used plastic stock and copper wire and to be honest I haven’t had this much fun playing in awhile.
I also tried the heat method for Zim… jury’s still out on that. Of course I still need to clean it up before priming the whole thing.

I added wire handles and the armour plate plus the front rods.

Much plasticard and bolts from scrap box

Also used scrap PE frets for some of the details

Obviously the grey parts aren’t Ac. Thanks Dragon for all the extras in kits!!

As I said it still has some clean up before priming.Still need to trim a couple of the handle mounts and attach the front spare track. The only AM parts are the barrels from JR. I got these on sale as part of a collection Mark bought at Dicount here in MI. Just felt like playing with the camera and sharing. Will post picts after she’s done!!

Hey, very nice progress. I have the same kit that I picked up a while back for practically free. Good to see that you can breathe a little life into it with just a little bit of effort.

Ya, that’s what I thought Zokissma. It definately isn’t up to today’s standards but it’s perfect to try stuff without feeling like I may hurt an expensive kit.

good job… nice progress, i like the extras

Good job so far Andy! I believe the talents of the builder can turn any rough cut stone into a Gem. I think you’re going to have a jewel of a build here. Semper Fi, Mike

Did you add the welding detail to the armor plates or is that built into the kit?

Geoff, Mike thanks for peaking at the old girl and the comments. I did the welds Ralph. I’ve got a few good ref picts. of two different vehicles. Both had the weld lines but other wise they were quite different. One had storage boxes on the fenders and one didn’t.And the spare barrell boxes were different too. I kinda mixed items together from the two pict.

What the hey I’m having fun trying some stuff that I’ve been practicing on scrap to see how it looks on a kit.

looks like your giving alot of effort into this kit, looks good so far.

I like trying the older kits. Looks like it’s coming along great.

Thanks Matt & John.Ya it’s alot of effort but if the stuff ends up working out when she’s all done I’ll have more confidence to try it on other stuff.

Plus I haven’t played with my Digital in awhile. I was coming in from shooting picts outside and saw it sitting there so I thought I’d share it .
