Okay guys, here’s another ‘zaster (2 pics xtra pg 5)

Battle scarred Russian BT7 Fast tank
(Tuesday night delight)

While I have come across some references that designate this as a BT5, I’ve used the BT7 designation that was on the box as I believe it is correct.

I bought this last year at a contest for $5.00 thinking it would be some fun to tinker with. Now that summer is gone and the nip is in the air, I decided it was the time to go ahead and crunch it on out.

I really had fun beatin’ the crap outa this ‘un.

Written instructions are nonexistent. Some of the parts were depicted backwards or upside down. There are some bad fits in this kit, but in keeping with the fun aspect I ignored a few and worked on the more important ones that dealt with it’s structural integrity. The small plastic parts were brittle and extremely easy to break, the horn broke twice in different places. Not a real quality kit but hey, $5.

The barrel was an indistinct plastic blob. I made a replacement with some tube aluminum, a file and a battery powered drill. The tracks were fiddly, so I just made do (no pun intended).

Hope all of you enjoy the pictures. Maybe you’ll pick up some inspiration for your next build.
Any input; good, bad or just plain ugly is welcome…. (actually, ugly just suits this tank)

The original Degtyaryov DP28 commander’s machine gun was indistinct, inaccurate and brittle…. it broke in two halfway down the barrel and couldn’t be made to look right.
So……
……I picked up a good MG34 (minus the ammo) off a destroyed german halftrack. (I guess that’s not really too far a stretch) I think it looks much better and adds interest.

Nasty ain’t it…… you just missed the gang.

This guy’s crawled through the battle and is back for more.

(Here’s a link to the last project I did before this one)

Until next time…………………….

sweet, i dig Bt-7’s, little and sick.

2 thumbs up - Ebert and roper

WOW!! GREAT work!!! the weathering is stunning.

How did you do the dust? and how did you make the wear on the front fenders?

GREAT WORK!!!

[:)]

one word…superb

I was wondering if you’ve got any step by step processes of turning that barrel??

Steve, I just don’t know what to say–it’s simply a hit “out of the park” as they say…a superb, masterful build and finish. Humbling!

You know, it’s always a stunning surprise to see your latest “disaster” but we could all learn so much from you if you would do a real, genuine WIP thread here. To see how you age your finish, and get your results would be a real plus for everyone; me included! You have so much talent, but it’s really not possible to genuinely appreciate it without seeing you “In action”!

How about considering it for your next build???

ABSOLUTELY STUNNING!!![bow] The finish is amazing. I’m with Doog on this one , would love to see how you achieve this amazing results. Great build.

Yeah, me too! How did you get such a realistic rust effect?

As far as the actual build goes…

I’m speechless.[8D]

To quote the Doctor “fantastic!”

I always look forward to you ‘zasters’. And yes, PLEASE do a WIP!

I love it. Absolutely brilliant. Ditto the previous question, how did you get the rust finish?

Cheers

steve[:D]

A wonderful build!—I love the tangle of barbed wire thru the treads-excellent–never have seen that done before–your building AND photography are just going way off the charts—but-- and I hate myself for this -----the chain is in my humble opinion out of scale—kill me now—the model would be a perfect 10 if you went to maybe a 42 lpi chain—

yer pal and a BIG fan of your work —tread[8D]

OH MY GOD…GET SOME RUST-O_LEM FOR THAT TANK…Wait…it’s the latest Disatermaster rust bucket. Nice work on the rust. Is it all dust…a mix…or some secret disater-master mix

As you guys know these are not my cup of tea but the rust work is excellent. Do tell.

Rounds Complete!!

Great build! It is amazing. I love the barbed wire. it is amazing. this is a work of art. I would love to see it up close and personal.

That looks awesome! I would second the desire for an overview on the rust process.

Hey, I’m planning a kitbash on this kit; how did lower hull and running gear build up? The rest of the kit probably won’t matter, since it will come from other kits and my own fabrications…

Thanks!

After all these years of hearing otherwise, I now know that it is possible to polish a t**d! [:D]

Awesome job![tup] Some day I hope to end up with something half that nice!

Please, please tell show us how you achieve that awesome finish.

OK, ya remember that Panzer IV I posted a week or so ago…

THIS IS HOW I WANTED IT TO LOOK.

Wow.

WOW! I love it. That is just awesome looking!

And ditto on the WIP progress… I would love to see that myself.

My, what a disaster. But a beautiful disaster. This is your best to date IMO. I just love the rust and scratches. You did a fantastic job on an old kit.

It actually dates from 2001, so…while it is ‘old’ its not that old. However, it is eastern so…they are years behind Dragon and Trump…

I can only echo what has been said above Steve, bravo sir!!! The dirt, dust and oh man the rusting, just plain super!!!

[:O] [wow] [bow] [#toast] [8-]

Remarkable! All of a sudden…WHAM… DM’s latest hits the boards. [bow]

And double ditto on the WIP. There is a whole mess of things I would’ve loved to see how you did them.
