OK, Tanks Rock!! - but what's your favorite?

Okay, we know that Tanks Rock!!!, but what’s everyone’s favorite overall? I guess the question could be asked, which tank do you like and which tank is your favorite to model (or would like to)?

Mine of course is the M1A1! Having been in the Army (I guess I’m biased) as the OPFOR (at NTC) and facing down M1’s in combat exercises, I have to say I’m very impressed. They’re quick, agile and just plain mean. I’ve watched M1’s racing across the desert while the gun barrel stayed locked on target. [8D]

Ok, I’m biased also. My favorite tank is the Tiger Middle production. I don’t know why I’m Biased, but I am.

This is a hard one.

  1. any panther series tanks.
  2. All of the tigers.

You just gotta love the tigers.

Mine love, the Leopard 2 A5 is one of most perfect designed vehicles in the world. It looks incredible.[8)]
But I believe, russian T-90 is ever best performed fighting armor. It’s strong, fast, accurate and enduring. What’s else?[}:)]

My fav would be the late Panther G, you know chin mantlet, sans zimmerit, etc.

I too, have an affinity for the M1A1, having spent three years on them in the Army.

Most favorite would be any Tiger 1.

Most favorite class…any german armor from WW2. I guess its the look and camoflage of the armor the germans used in the war but they are just so cool looking :slight_smile:

I like mostly World War 2 Tanks - but love the Leopard Tank - hoping to model an Australian Leopard MBT ASAP.

Going by looks rather than performance: Jagdpanthers “S” Tank ( I know, No Turrets ! ) Tiger II with Porsche turret

My favs would be the Tiger I series, the early production especially.

Having crewed on M48A5, M60A3TTS, M1, M1IP, M1A1, M1A2, I think the modern US tanks are neat but I always wonder what the MBT70 would have been like to tank on. I would say it’s my favorite “modern” tank.

My favorite old tank is the M3 Lee. This tank was the bridge between the “land battleships” with guns sticking out every which way and the modern turreted tank.

M4A3 sherman,my grandfather was in one. he used to tell me stories about how big a pain in the a$$ it was to change track links in the middle of combat.he hated track killing land mines.lol

From a modelling standpoint, I say it’s the Abrams. I’ve built both the M1A1 and M1A2, Trumpeter, Tamiya, DML… It’s one of the easiest kits to build.

On tanks per se, it’ll be the Challenger I, Strv122, Leopard 2A5 and the Abrams in that order.

that’s a lot of M1 and Tiger fan’s here!
My favorite Tanks ist the old ugly british Tanks (Churchill,Mathilda) and the russian T-34. By the modern the Leopard and the Abrams.
Ba the way. Have anyone bulid up the M1 from Trumpeter?

I think the T-34 85 has some of the best lines of the “classic” main battle tank.I really like the lines of most of the mbt"s out there today. however lets not foget the self propeled guns …those have a awsome look all there own…

Any Tiger, King Tiger especially. Stug III, Panzer IV, M113 series, got to love the hot boxes on tracks. M1A1 in desert camo, Euro camo seems so wrong.
Currently building M247 Sgt. York, too bad, slow but could have been useful against fleeing Iraqies…oh, that sounds wrong.

Tanks rock? Well As a former grunt, the best place to be around any armor on the battlefield is way far away, they draw fire like flies to anything stinky. My personal favorite has to be the M-3 Stuart and it’s earlier kin. Hey, fortyfive miles an hour on a nine cylinder radial aircraft engine, look at some of the photos from the 1940 Louisiana Manuvers, those jokers were having too much fun!!!
