Hello All,
Getting ready to paint my Mk 1 tank. I’m planning on using an enamel base coat with acrylic washes and I was thinking of also using oil dots to simulate grime. Will oil thinner (turpenol) hurt a lacquer thinned enamel or a water thinned acrylic?
That depends upon your thinner. A mild thinner like Mona Lisa brand, will not attack your enamel base coat once it has dried and cured. Some stronger ones will. I suggest that you experiment on an old model with the supplies you have before trying them out on your Mk.1 project.
Test it. With the enamel there’s a real chance of making a mess. I rely on an acrylic clear coat before oils washes.
Generally only use oil over acrylic.
I have used Oil washes on enamels, once sealed with a clear laquer. No issues.
