Here’s the deal. At the end of the month, I’ll be out of town for a few days. I live in sort of a smaller town, so my LHS (is that right?) doesn’t have a very big selection. While I’m in Denver, I’ll definitely stop at a hobby store.[:D][}:)] I’m only interested in 1/48 WWII aircraft. What are some models that you would recommend buying if I were to see them? I don’t have anything British or German, so I’d like to pick up some of those. But no bombers. I’m just now about finished whith a B-24 and I have a B-25 and a B-29.
I wanted to post this a little early to get as many replies as possible before I leave.[;)]
Any of Hasegawa’s STUKA series and Accurate Miniatrue’s RECON MUSTANGs are enjoyable builds and look GREAT when finished.[#ditto] As noted by the folks above.
Grab one of ICM’s Spitfire series, you can get twice the detail of a Hasegawa Spit, usually at half the price. There’s so much in the ICM Spits that you won’t need aftermarket. I’ve heard the same can be said of their RAF P-51C kit.
Eduard makes a very nice Hawker Tempest in both full plastic and their Profipack range. I also understand their P-39 is quite nice.
In my opinion there are a boat load of stuff you could choose from. What I would do is find something that peaks your interest and go from there. Just my [2c].
Revell of GErmany Bf.110 G2-R3. Cool plane with plenty of AM parts available (but enough detail to get by on it’s own). Also, there are 8 billion (plus or minus three) decal/paint varaiations.
I lke the “let the plastic call to you” idea. It’s what I usually do when I’m in a buying mood. But barring that, I’d suggest a F-4U Corsair, the Ju-87 Stuka (I want the tank killer with gun packs) or maybe a Stormavik (see a CAS theme in my choices?)
Whatever you get, I’m sure you’ll enjoy. There are so many to choose from!
Thanks for all your ideas. I love going into a big hobby store and looking at all the many things they have to offer. If I can just control myself and share with the other customers.[:D] I’ll have to post some pics of what buy.
just a thought, if they have it the Monogram Promodeler Ju-87 R2 is the Hasegawa mold at about 1/2 the price usually (got mine for $15 dollars)
The Fujimi Bf110 is also sweet at about $19.00
Tamiya - most of their stuff is great! I am 80% done with their P-47 bubbletop and the detail is exquisite! The interior detail rivals resin cockpits!
But as everyone said… let your eyes guide you… anything Hasegawa or Tamiya is really good mostly, the Monogram Promodeler series are usually molds off Hasegawa and really nice kits (their Ju88 C6 nightfighter ROCKS!!!) Accurate Miniatures is tops as far as interior detail and accuracy. I really recommend their SBD line and have heard great things on their Avenger line as well.
I’m not a WWII builder but I’ve been to Colpar Hobbies in Denver and they have a very extensive well stocked store. I build airliners and they have a wonderful selection. They are on the web so you can take a gander at their inventory.
