Thanks, guys – it was a fun build in the end! I find myself wondering if Red 13 here might not have been Heinz Bar’s plane from late '45…
When the tropical paints eventually come available I’ll do a mottle scheme on the other Revell kit, but for now I have a StuG to finish and am getting back to that Gloster Meteor I started a year ago (which will be my fifth and sixth completions during my ‘slack employment’ time of year…)
Cheers, it’s been a great party!

very nice looking Ho…I like the subtle weathering…great build!!! [t$t]
and another Spotted Ho would be a welcomed addition to the family!!! [;)]
I donno Thunderbolt Masking wont come off until tomorrow
That is some good looking Horton 229 you have built there buddy. The weathering is spot on in my book, great camo and markings too. The number 13 has always been a sort of gothic number to me and it really goes well on these bat planes [:D[
Thanks, man! I guess I got burned out on the decals and clearcoats and put it aside when there was really not far to go. Well, it’s done now, and I’ve wanted one of these ever since I was a kid and saw a painting by John Bachelor in the old Purnell History of the World Wars books. I remember having a go at one in balsa, with a shaped plasticene canopy and hand-brushed worm-pattern camo in the 70s, then the Ho 229 kinda slipped to the back of my mind. I was going to do a shoot-the-wroks technique job on the old PM kit as an article for FSM, but it never got any further than drawing a 1:72 rescribing diagram… The 1:48 Nachtjaeger is calling softly to me, but my fingers are in my ears, I have many others to do first (am wash-weathering a Sturmgeschutz and hard-masking RAF camo on a Meteor today…)
Cheers, Mike/TB379
Thunderbolt:
Nice build…I love the Gray on Gray scheme.
Very nice—claim your BADGE!
Thanks Hermech and Manny – already did!
Last night I pulled out the Nachtjaeger and it is structurally very similar to the Revell kit. The weak point on the standard edition is eliminated as the redesigned forward fuselage, with the engines buried internally, means there is a long joint between the nose and body parts. Hmmmm… No, must resist the temptation for now, I have too many others to do!

The only bad part of this hobby, ya wanna know what it is ???
Waiting for [cnsod] paint and GLUE to dry !!! Geeze takes for ever [:|]
That’s a big ten-four, pardner…
M/TB379
Glue and paint has dried so its picture time. The camo doesn’t show up well in the mancave so I will be taking pictures in natural light when my Ho is finished. Anyway here’s where it is now, well a couple of hours ago, at the moment I am waiting for the glue on the engine installation to dry. And let me tell you slippin the engines in was childs play compared to assembling that nose gear.
Looks great Vette…!!! [Y]
I feel your pain on that nose gear…I told you it was a P.I.T.A. …and the camo looks sharp!!!

Looking good, Randy – this is not the easiest subject to bring together.
Cheers, M/TB379
any updates on the other tropical Ho???
Hi guys, no updates, the paints haveb beenm on back order for four or five months – MM Acryls are still rare in this country and the distributor can’t supply the whole range yet, at least not reliably, though that should improve as it looks like Pollyscale is being phased out and replace with Acryl.
When the RLM 78 and 80 come available I’ll be able to take a shot at finishing that one, and doing other southern-front subjects, but until then I’m pretty much hamstrung…
M/TB379
What country are you in? If you can’t paint it yet at least take some different pics with some different lighting so we don’t forget about you…
Down in sunny Australia, Herr Feldmarschall… There’s not much to see, just a few bits clagged together (“Clag” is an old, old brand of glue, something like whiteglue, down here, so to “clag” is to stick…) I’ll be around, don’t worry!
M/TB379
Herr Fieldmarshell my Ho 229 is finished I am just waiting for some good sun to take pictures of it. its been cloudy and rainy here for the last couple of days. I want the camo to show up really well and it wont if pictures are taken in the mancave. Hopefully the sun will show its face tomorrow

Isn’t there a song that goes something like this “It never rains in California…”
Well thats true but here in SoCal what most call a light sprinkle they call a major storm here [:O] So the song is basically correct it never rains in California.
