Of all things to throw away! Need Magic Track help.

Good evening friends! I recently purchased a Dragon 1/35 Sd.Kfz.265 Kleiner (6597) and was progressing along quite nicely considering it was my first attempt at a dragon kit. However, I realized yesterday that I accidentally threw away one of the two bags of Magic Tracks! [:(] Oh man, I can’t believe I did that! [bnghead] Seriously, who does that! Anyway, have any of you had any luck getting a bag of replacement tracks from Dragon? Or do you think that would be a futile attempt? I’ve done a brief google search and it doesn’t look like Dragon sells them separately. Thank you!

Armorama forum has a spare track exchange where folks trade off, sell,or donate kit tracks they are not using.Or you can check out ebay.

Contact Dragon customer service and open a trouble ticket and explain what happen and what item you need replacing. They will sell the parts separately if they have them. They were very helpful to me on several projects and they only charged me I thought was reasonable for the parts and shipping. If they accept your trouble ticket they will ask you to copy the part listed on the instruction sheet and model number of the ticket and come back with a price and instructions on how to pay.

I have open 3 trouble tickets with them and the were most helpful and move quickly. I had all issues resolved in two weeks. I heard that they are not that customer friendly to modelers in other countries (I live in the USA) but I really can’t speak to that.

Marcus

Thanks guys!

If you don’t want to tackle Dragon Customer service then you have a couple of alternatives,

Friul ATL-20 PzKpfw. I Opel Maultier

http://www.friulmodel.hu/en/atl-20-pzkpfw-i-opel-maultier-i24/

Micro Scale Design 1/35 German PzKpfw I Track Link Set - can’t find any on sale anywhere!

Anyway, The friul set are probably much easier to deal with than dragons magic tracks!

Guess I’ll have to think on this one because it looks like one can acheive a nice “sag” using the Friulmodel tracks but WOW $46! [:|]

I do use friul tracks on my armour builds on a regular basis.

I use them especially if the tracks are the rubber band type or link and length style.

A recent build, Amusing hobby’s Jagdpanther II was a great and gun build but the tracks were very fiddly to put together, but would havd fully worked. I went instead with Friul’s Panther II tracks and they just look great.

The tracks were addembled with wire supplied in the box (cut to length, tiny dab of superglue) and then, without any primer, Ak’s Extreme Metal steel was applied with a 0.4mm nozzle, left overnight to dry and cure then the tracks fitted to the model.

The Friul tracks took a full day to put together (both sides) which is much quicker than the kit tracks would have been. I am not decrying the kit tracks, but they were just that little too much for me!!!

My next build will be another amusing hobby kit - not sure which one yet and I will try Xtreme metal’s gunmetal on the tracks to darken them a little more.

I will admit that Friuls tracks aren’t cheap, but they are good and are easy to deal with.

Most of my armour have a metal barrel and tracks as AM items. the rest is an OOB build.

I find Kaizen tracks are a good cheap alternate to Friul when doing Panzer IV, Panther, Tigers, and Shermans. They are half the price and assemble the same way as the Friul tracks. They are plastic tracks but fully workable and are really good looking tracks. No issues trying to get the “sag” you want

I hoping that Kaizen expands there section. Their products are way better than a lot of the other aftermarket track makers.

That SPG looks great! Thanks guys for the suggestions! I really appreciate the help.

Good memories…

Couldn’t help but notice how this resembles the the tank from the old “Battle Zone” arcade gsme back in 1981 (just about the time I got this crappy old typewriter).

Ha, good catch! It does have a remarkable resemblance!

Damn! I remember playing that game!!!

Still, it is a very nice kit and I can reccomend it.

Spade Ace do three types of Panzer I tracks and you can get them through ebay

When you start looking then all sorts pop up!

I have never used spade ace, but their E-100 track set looks inviting for my new aquisitions! They also look to have a cleaner casting than Friul.

James

Thanks James. Can’t beat the prices!

I have used Spade Ace Tiger tracks-very nice.

And they are already drilled out for 'ya.

Hi;

I have to address this Fruilmodel track thing . I have decided I really like them ! Why ? Well I have a Self Propelled gun nicknamed the " Dicker Max " " there were two built and the Soviets made toast out of one . The other who knows ? Anyway , I got this in the " Goodie " raffle at an IPMS show . I decided to try the Fruilmodel Tracks and use the kit tracks for something else .

If I remember ( it’s on standby right now ) the kits tracks were either plastic individual links or link and length . Anyway . the Fruil Model tracks added substantially to the model’s weight . I wish plane models could be rendered stable that easy .

Price ? Well , you get what you pay for , and these are the Cat’s MEOW !

Is there any metal flash or other cleanup needed?

Oh ya. You have to check each link for flash and also drill out the pin holes because a lot of them will be blocked from the casting of the link. The manufacturer gives you the honor of cleaning up those links. That is way I prefer to use Kaizen tracks when I can because they go together like Fruil and are fully workable but you don’t have to deal with the cleanup like you do with the Fruil.

Fruil on the left-Spade on the right
The SpadeAce looks much sharper.

As for me, I always take the hard road and use the kit tracks.
