Ocean gray in a rattlecan

Hi, all…
I just finished a Tamiya Spitfire Mk V in the Dark Green/Ocean Gray scheme, and the upper surfaces came out way too dark.
Because of my housing situation, I’m restricted to using rattlecans…I used Tamiya AS-9 and AS-10 on this and while the green is maybe a bit too dark, the gray is way too dark. I did some test strips using different Tamiya rattlecans, and their Light Ghost Gray looks more correct than anything else.
Am I doing something wrong? Can anyone help?
Many thanks,
Brent

I have a Tamiya Mosquito kit in the stash and those or the colors they call out
I watched a youtube build of the kit and he airbrushed XF-82 & XF-81. If you like the results perhaps you can try to match with rattle cans.

Wow, that Mossie looks great.
Here’s my Spitfire…

Since the flash of the camera is so bright, the colors look pretty good. But in person, it’s really dark…

Looks great to me! Good job - and I really like that scheme.

I use Tamiya’s Aircraft color rattlecans, too. But I treat the colors as starting points, knowing that I will weather them and so, out of the can, it doesn’t matter that it’s not a finished color.

Welcome to the forum Brent! Your Spitfire looks terrific. I use rattle cans too. Sometimes the color of the primer can affect the final appearance of the finished paint. I usually use Tamiya light gray, but use white primer for lighter colors.

Build looks good,I would think the cans would be a lot more noxious then an airbrush, unless it’s about the noise
