I recently purchased a passache H model, and am happy with its performance and simplicity. After some advice from the FSM Community I was about to purchase a number 1 tip assembly for the H to get finer detail. However, there was a secondhand F brush for sale for the same price as the new No 1 tip for the H.
The F seems to have a fine tip which creates quite thin lines and detail (it even blocks up with metalic paint!), and I beleive that this will meet my needs. However, could I get some feedback from’those that know’ if I made a wise choice.
I have and use the H and F model with excellent results. I think you made a fine choice as the H with last you a life time and it is very capable. I use the number #1 for fine lines and the number#3 tip for general use. I own alot of airbrushes, even the popular Iwatas, but I always at some point go back to my trusty Paasche H. I have an “F” as well but I haven’t used it much. I have been able to spray a 1/32nd inch fine line camo outline with the H#1 tip lately so I don’t feel compeled to switch up. For fine lines on my 1/72nd scale jets I thin MM enamels with their thinner at a 1:1 ratio, add 4 to 5 drops of “Oil Paint Medium” by Winsor & Newton, increase the air pressure to around 30 psi and adjust for the smallest dot possible. The OPM improves paint flow and prevents clogs at the tip. The OPM also will make the paint slightly glossy but this shouldn’t be an issue for most. Give it a try, have fun and I hope this was helpfull!
I have the H and the F (handy little thing), can’t beat them. Every time I think about upgrading to a VL, I back off. I learned on the H and have grown comfortable with it. If you find that your two trusty brushes serve you well then you won’t ever have to buy a new brush. I figure my Paasches have lasted nearly twenty years, so they are good for another twenty+.[;)]
