I have been building the old Monogram F4F-4 wildcat. I built this straight from the box. Nothing fancy, just the old kit and what was in the box. I wanted to put a kit together quick so I could get some airbrush time in. I also have the old Monogram FW190 (No Instructions), that I want to slap together for airbrush time.
Here’s the Cat so far. She needs a bath, then I’ll prime her.
Wheels are not glued on, tanks are not glued on, prop is also not glued on. It’s a wide open shot to shoot some silver on the landing gear. I only need to hit the firewall with green zinc, there is no cockpit. The rest is just an easy, gull gay under and blue up top.
For a quick build, it looks pretty good. Please continue your thread so that the many forum members as well as myself can see your finished product as you said; “To get some airbrush time on”!
[:D] Cool play on words there " not ready for primer time ".
I wish you Good luck on the AB time. That’s one subject I surely need much more practice time with . I ruined the last 3 and sent them to the self of doom.
Thanks for stopping in Toshi. I will post the finished prouct, maybe a few paint in progress pics. I really need the airbrush time, I havent picked up my ab’s in over 2 years.
By the way, I know a guitar player with the same name, you wouldnt be Mr. Iseda would you?
It’s like riding a bike, I put my AB down for 15 years and started spraying like I never left. Glad your back. I read you post in another thread and I hope your here to stay for a while.
I generally shoot with my Talon, but I still like my old VL and my Badger 150. I also own 2 Precision Aire Treo-XF guns. I landed them in a 2 for 1 deal at BearAir many years ago. I found I really didnt need these guns because my Talon and VL handled most of what I needed in this hobby. The only downside to my Talon is the size of the cup. I dont know why they added such a large cup to the brush. If I needed that much paint I would shoot from a bottle.
What a cool thread. That Wildcat was, I think my first build at the kitchen table with my dad. It was molded in dark blue and was never painted. This thread makes me want to get another one.
I also like your airbush sets. I use both a Badger 150 and VL as well. Have had them for years. Look forward to your results with the Wildcat.
I scored a Badger VL at a flea market for 2 bucks. It was all grungy and moldy but it cleaned up real nice after I disassembled the whole thing . Trouble with it though as it won’t shoot until the pressure gets upwards of 30 psi. I wonder what’s to be done with it ? any ideas guys ?
Hi Scott, thanks for stopping in and taking a look. I have had my badgers and VL since High School. Badger is a terriffic company when it comes to customer service. I recenty had my 150 retooled for 10 bucks, they charged me for parts, labor was free. They where also quick. I recently gave my brother inlaw my Badger 175, it was so similar to my VL that I just didnt see the need for it.
The 2 Treo Xf brushes, only one has been used a total of 2 times. I just dont need that fine detail work. My other brushes handle everything just fine.
Well, so much for my 5 day build. Actually the build was 2 days, but the paint progress has stalled. I ordered blue, gray. flat clear, and semi gloss from eBay, the paint has still not arrived! [:@]
I contacted the seller of the blue paint and he replied promptly, stating he shipped the item on the 18th, so I expect I’ll see the blue sometime this comming week. No reply from the other sellers! That is unexceptable to me, and I rewrote them and let them know that. I really think they just dont care.
OK, really nothing significant going on with my build. I painted my ground crew guy, he just need a slight wash and he’s all done. I also started taping my canopy.
Im using a new photo hoster. It looks like they save everything in very small files. The image is clickable for a larger view.
Update: The old photo was a thumbnail link. My bad. I’m just figuring out the new hoster.
