Northrop F2T-1N

Folks, I am looking for pictures of the Northrop F2T-1N, which is the USMC version of the P-61B Black Widow. I have found many Internet sites that mention the F2T-1N, but none have pictures. If any of you could give me some leads for pictures of the F2T-1N, I would be eternally grateful. Thanks a bunch!

Thats the only one I found, scroll down a bit and you will see it.; Looks to be the same basic paint as the USAAC birds, but with the “VF” and “39” markings. Starfighter Decals did post in one of the forums I found, saying he had a few photos of these aircraft, you may try contacting them and seeing what they have. The best I can tell is that these were -B models without the top turret, and they were only used for training…the Marines then moved on to the F7F-3N Tigercat operationally.

I’d personally be more interested in the F-15A Reporter, as it is a different airplane rather than just a P-61 in different markings.

I was all set to refer you to Lloyd Jones’ book Navy Fighters, but, that photo that F-8fan found is the same one as in the book

I am saying this only so that you don’t hunt down a rare, expensive copy of it, only to find that someone already gave you a link to the photo

Thanks for the link to the picture, F-8fanatic. Based on what I can research on-line, the Navy borrowed a P-61A for some catapult tests, and two P-61Cs for some missile tests. All three were returned to the USAF. Only the Marines received all twelve F2T-1Ns (P-61Bs) for radar training only until they received their F7F Tigercats. The reason I want the USMC photos is that I want to build a USMC version (being a former Devil Dog, it’s just logical…) of the Black Widow. I didn’t even realize they existed until I was just browsing around on the Internet the other day, and just decided to look up P-61. Based on the photo, looks like I can very easily make my own decals for this, along with using some left-over decals from other projects.
