Hello all. This is my question. I am doing the Monogram B-17g for the Monogram build and will do her in the nmf. I will be using Alclad for the job. I was going to spray it with future after I put the Alclad on it and weather it. This puts me in a prediciment though as I don’t want a glossy shine nor a flat one. Is mixing 2 parts gloss coat and 1 part flat going to give me a satin finish over the Future and weathering?
Any and all advice or suggestions welcome because I am almost there to that point now.

I use Tamiya XF-21 Flat Base and Future for flat finishes. About 3-4 parts Future to 1 part Flat Base will give a flat finish. Around 5-6 parts Future to 1 part Flat Base will give a satin finish. Play with it on some scrap that is painted the same as your plane until you get the finish you like.
I’m not sure how well it will work over Alclad though. I have read here that spraying gloss or flat finishes over metalizers reduces the metallic appearance. Someone can probably shed more light on that.
My personal prefrence is that the nmf on warbirds is satin in scale sizes. This being well used planes mind ya, not just off the assembly lines. Climate, combat and general use weathering on scale models looks more accurate to me in satin, as scale and shading we have to do to make them real.
Again this is my own personal preference and not to be construed as hard info to you all. I just needed to know the ratio’s ty.
