Heh fellas, this is a two figure vignette that I put together for a contest on saturday. The figures were going to go with a NMF Mustang but the plane is far from finished as of today.
The figures are Ultracast 1/35 scale with Ultracast 40’s hair styles heads swapped out. The tiny gears are from watches and the bucket I scratch build out of lead foil. I hope to submit a article to FSM detailing how you can build one. The saw horses are scratch built out of wood. The yellow spinner cap somehow hogged the light so that may explain less than excellent pictures. The name plate is at the trophy shop and hopefully finished today.[:D]

Yes I agree but there is more to the story… Its actually figures to be displayed next to a 1/32 scale Mustang in a maintenance scene. The plane has a lot of work into the motor and for a contest tomorrow I wanted to enter them as the plane is far from finished. Basically that scene will be set by the Merlin engine which will be within reach of ‘Freddie’ on the bench / table.
I was looking to delete this thread as I figured there was no interest in it. LOL Anyhow there are some ‘studio style’ pictures in the ‘Natural Metal Finish’’ group build I just posted.
I appreciate your comment and figured the little explanation would help put the scene into the future perspective.
Wabashwheels, No, the Mustang will need another few months (non-summer ones) to complete. Its as I call it 49% finished and vetteman42 will allow it to cross over to NMF II. I really didn’t want to rush that project and will shelf it for a while. I became bogged down in a quagmire of my own scratch building and the figures were a nice way to get something completed.[:)]
At the model contest saturday I picked up a Accurate Miniatures Stormovik IL2 single seat in 1/48 scale and a Tasca Sherman Firefly in 1/35 scale. Bought the metal barrel as well. (17lb / 76.2mm AT) My name was drawn for a door prize right away (everyone got a door prize) so I nabbed a Tamiya Sherman M1A1 in 1/48 scale with a Ultracast 1/35 British tank commander taped to the box. Good score![H]
Ordered goodies from Squadron mail order for all 3 and a few Sherman books. Interested in building Canadian units. That being said I won’t be building a lot untill rainy days[st] Most likely the 1/48 Sherman first. I hear it rains a lot in Nova Scotia so some WIP’s won’t be far off![:D]
Just noticed, there’s no smoke comming off the cig. I used a bit of the stuffing fibers from an old comforter, just twist one end together and kind feather out the other end. Anymore than a foot away, it looks real, even up close, it’s tough to beat. Just a tiny dab of CA to the cig tip will keep it in place.
fermis, great diorama and cool effect! Dare I assume 1/48 scale w/ B-26?
I usually roll my own, I cut a small rectangle out of a Zig Zag rolling paper with a sliver of its glue. I guess the ‘smoke’ could be rolled up in the cigarette for effect. Dropped that habit for a while now, I do have a contender for ‘worlds smallest left hander’ Its in the hand of a 1/72 scale Jagpanzer loader figure. Just his head is sticking out of the vehicle and upon close inspection it can be seen! Used a #78 drill bit to make the placement hole in his hand.

Took ‘Best of category for vignette’ at a contest on May 29th. It was a points format and the extra work in the display base & details must have edged out the other entries. Once my NMF P-51D Mustang is finished the figures and some of the scratch built details will get transferred to that display.
Love the setup & can see where it will really add to the Mustang display. Congrats on the trophy, can’t wait to see the whole assembly done. Rain in NS?! Nahh, horrible rumour, dry there all year long! [whstl]
