Nice Gee Bee model by gking86

Here’s three nice photos that gking86 sent me of his AModel Gee Bee (posted with his permission):

Gordon writes about the model:

“The decals for the fuselage and wheels give you just the basic outline, the rest of these parts had to be painted. I also added the fine wire for the wings and landing gear to make it look authentic.”

Hope you enjoy!

Bruce

Wow! That’s a gorgeous airplane. Is that 1/72 scale? It’s so tiny!

Very nice work, neat as a pin. I’ll bet many of the parts on a 1/48 model are bigger than that Gee Bee is put together. The sharpness of the paint lines is impressive.

WOW That looks real nice.

Very neat build of “The Flying Silo” ,one of the best-known “Golden Age” American racing aircraft that was first flown in 1932. In this aircraft Jimmy Doolittle set a world speed record of 252.686 MPH.

The support wires look very good and in scale. The paint job also looks good. The fabric over wood construction was covered with fourteen coats of lacguer to create the high-gloss finish on the original Granville Brothers racer.

Yes this is a 1/72 scale kit. The wing decals were very accurate. As noted above the decals for the fuselage and landing gear were just an outline. I brush painted the rest of the body and landing gear. I used a number 61 drill to make the holes for the wires. Thanks Bruce for your help in posting the photos.

Hey wing_nut

Is that your penny?[(-D][(-D]

I didn’t steal Wing Nut’s penny, just is idea of using one with a small model. I originally photographed it with a silver dollar but it didn’t give the same perspective.
