In honor of the start of the 2006 NFL season, and even though the Texans lost today, I present my latest build, a Monogram 1/48 AT-6 Texan painted and decaled in Houston Texans colors and logos. I scratch built seat belts and printed the decals myself. The paint scheme is purely from the deep recesses of my imagination: the red horns on the wings are supposed to be as if the Texans’ bull is casting a shadow of sorts of its horns on these wings, or something like that.
My first attempt at the decals was a disaster, in that I didn’t plan for a white border on the “Houston Texans” or the bull-head logos, and consequently those decals didn’t show against the Blue Angels Blue paint I used for this build. I compensated by printing new decals on white decal film, but then didn’t consider that the white would not necessarily hide the underlying paint - I should have applied a piece of white film, futured it, then applied the bull-head logos on top of that. Or just masked that area and painted it white. But … quite frankly I was getting sick of this build and just wanted it done. Bad modeler [:(]
Oh yes, Saltydog, Fran. Touchy subject … Fran and former DC Torbush destroyed a Texas A&M tradition, the Wrecking Crew defense. Torbush is gone now, and I am not alone among Aggies in saying that if Fran does not win a minimum of 9 games this season, with at least 1 victory over Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Nebraska, or t.u., then he should be fired.
[;)]But, here’s one for you – consider Bama losing Fran as payback for Bama stealing away from A&M one of the greatest ever coaches, Bear Bryant.
Nicely done. It looks awesome. Deep down, I have a desire to ummmm… do something like that, except in marking for the different high school football teams around here (i.e. Hartselle Tigers, Cullman Bearcats, Muscle Shoals Trojans, etc.), but recent “budget cuts” an lack of know-how for makeing custom decals have shelved that idea for a while… By the way, being a band member, I played at my first home game against Decatur (who is ranked 2nd in the stae, by the way), and WE BEAT THE !@#$ OUT 'EM! Thats great, because the have slaughtered Hartselle every year for six years in a row now. GO TIGERS!!!
Interesting build. Now if it were painted Green & White with Block S insignia & a miniature Sparty in the pilots seat, I’d say it would have been a great build [:D].
Very, very cool! You did a great job. It’s nice to break away from the kit schemes and do your own. I just did a paint redesign for the 'what if ’ group build and really enjoyed it. Decals look like they came out well.[:D]
Thanks for all your comments. It was a fun build and it was good to get away from all the nitty-gritty details - what do the brake lines look like, where might there have been worn paint showing bare metal, etc, and just do a for-fun build. The decals were a bit more work than I thought they’d be, and there were some unexpected problems, mostly revolving around the clear decal film I initially used and was sorely disappointed to find the decals as red, clear and blue.
I did absolutely no weathering on this bird, figuring it would be very well maintained if there was truly a Houston Texans Texan flying around Houston. But the masking for the paint scheme, particularly the horns, was more than I usually do for a normal WWII build. Oh well, now it’s back to real war birds.
I love it!![8D][:D] I am a die hard Texans fan and am glad for the coaching change. If we could just get a little protection for Carr…[banghead] Excellent choice for the aircraft. You ought to send a pic or two to the team. I bet they would enjoy it.[#toast]
FYI Aggieman. There is a big B-17 fly in at Bomber Field in Monaville this weekend. I’m going Sat.
Nice build there Aggieman, better watch out for the NFL licensing gestapo! About the decals - what otherwise could one expect from an Aggie? Seriously, it looks good. I think that everyone has had a few builds that they have just wanted to get done with.
Eddie, I am also glad for the coaching change, and Kubiak is a graduate of A&M, so it’s doubly pleasing.
I won’t make it to Monaville since I’ll be in San Antonio for the A&M-Army matchup. [tup]
As for the Horns, ah, streaks such as you are currently enjoying over your biggest rival (and don’t try to say it’s OU) always come to an end, usually in a smashing fashion. Could be the year A&M takes down the Horns. Then again …
