News from Freetime Hobbies

Freetime is taking pre-orders for the Aoshima U.S.S. Wasp in 1/700 scale. Apparently the kit comes with a model of the I-19, the Japanese submarine that sank her. And the price isn’t bad.

Here’s the link: http://freetimehobbies.com/1-700-aoshima-uss-wasp-cv-7-plastic-model-kit/ .

Aoshima is also offering a set of photo-etched detail parts: http://freetimehobbies.com/1-700-aoshima-uss-wasp-cv-7-photo-etch-detail-set/ .

By my count, that leaves only the Ranger and Langley to complete the lineup of American prewar and WWII fleet carriers. I sure would like a genuinely new Enterprise and/or Yorktown, though. Those Tamiya kits are pretty weak.

If I ever suggest I want to build a second 1/700 carrier after finishing my LHA-1 Tarawa,

laugh in my face! Others will succeed…

This is indeed a very useful addition to the available kits.

While I will certainly purchase the USS Wasp (CV7), I have to admit that I am a little disappointed that it is a waterline kit. I prefer full hulls. That said . . . does anyone know about the overall quality of the Trumpeter USS Hornet in 1/700?
