Ive just completed my first model of 2005. Its the Volvo truck built just for the American market. I understand that it`s not yet on the shelves in your stores so I thought a preview of what to expect may interest some of you.

Thanks for the preview, Spitfire 321! Great looking build! [tup] Looks like another great truck model from Italeri. Is it a full detail kit or is it of Italeri’s newer style of simplified, molded-in-one-piece chassis, etc. Regardless, I can’t wait to see it on the shelves here!
Thanks, spitfire 321.
Is it possible to have a picture of its front?
Best wishes,
Hi Alex, Here is another view of the Volvo from the front - hope it`s O.K.
Bert, Im afraid that you are correct in assuming that its a simplyfied kit. Its a one piece chassis, the hood doesnt open (therefore there is no engine supplied). You do get a fixed oil sump that can be viewed from below.
I`m not sure why they have simplified this kit. Building the engine was one of my favourite areas of modeling.
One thing is for certain - they havn`t reduced the price. It still cost me £25.00 !!!
I was delighted with the results I achieved by following the tips on the techni
ques page of this forum. The hood comes in three pieces and I lost the seams by using a filler made from Future (called Klear - in this country) and talcum powder.

WOW…that’s awesome… can’t wait to get it here.
Very nice build. I haven’t seen too many Volvo trucks up here.
Looks pretty good to me.
Thanks Spitfire 321,
I started the Volvo VN thread on the SAE site. I can’t wait for this kit. Revell of Germany will offer the VN670 variation. The Italeri kit should be available here in North America at the end of January. Is it me or does the roof look a bit bulbous?
Why is it that italrei is doning this, is it to make it more attractive to new builders, to m i would prefer to have an accurate chassis and engine to go with the new kit, i am starting to think that i will have to start scratch building chassis enginges etd
I admire your confidence at scratch building an engine. My total experience at scratch building is to install coupling hoses for the trailor unit. Mind you, by the time I reached the last one in the fleet - they were looking rather neat (if I say so myself) ROFL
thank goodness for the likes of auslowe etc. who make buildin engines easier, i am currently building the australian western star at the moment, have installed a c12 engine, road ranger gearbox and shortened the chassis and converted the cab in to a day cab. will try and get som pictures this weekend. wnted to make this like a standard new zealand rig, which requires alot of scratch building. i have been building models for about 10 years now, getting better with each modle, still no where the level i see around the place though.
Id be very interested to see some scratch build engine photos for your Western Star. Id no idea what power unit was in mine so I tried leaving a post on an Outback roadtrain site. The help I received from drivers was quite staggering. I discovered that the engine was a Cat and it needed to be painted yellow.
Clint Freeman offers a Cummins N14 engine. His castings are about the best available.
