New type of plastic on Dragon Panther schurzens

I just opened the box on a new Dragon early type A Panther & the skirts were in a seperate bag & made of some Very flexible,thin type of plastic I’ve never encountered.Does anyone have an idea why they’re made of this stuff[the instructions don’t offer an explanation].I’m sure C.A. will hold them on,but this stuff is so slick I don’t know if any type of paint will adhere to it.Any help will be appreciated.Thanks ahead of time & Semper fi .

Hi there . Those shields are made of a different type of plastic becouse it isthey are not cast by injection molding method but looks like vacume formed. Just too dificult to make the shields that thin in a two part mold . As to painting dont worry just lightly scuf them with fine sand paper or use Mr Surfacer 1000 as primer

Thanks Mr. Szpakowski,that makes sense.You sound like you’re quite familiar with the process.I’ve allways wanted to take a tour of 1 of the major model mfgrs.I think it would be fascinating !

rudedog,
I think they are acetate. The same or similar to what is used in making the clear protective covers for photos, cards etc.
I painted mine with laquers and had no problem what so ever. You could use Floquil’s RR primer or any other color for that matter as an undercoat.
Would also like to extend a warm welcome to the both of you and hope you enjoy the board [#welcome]

Thanks Joe,this site amazes me on the wealth of knowledge available.I bet if I asked how stonehenge was built,someone on F.S.M.'s forum could come up with the answer.Semper fi

The real nice thing about those skirts is you can bend them and punch holes in them more realistically that regular plastic and more easily than PE.

rudedog,
I know what you mean. There are some really knowledgable and talented people here. They continue to amaze me on a regular basis.
Not a knock on any other boards or people, because I’ve met some great people and learned some very valuable things on other boards, but I still think this is the BEST site.
Here’s to hoping we both keep learning and being amazed by these fine folks[:D]

Here’s what they look like assembled an painted with acrylics (This is the “D”);

[:D]very nice,great job[:D]

I built the D model but with the same skirt materials as was included in the A. Didn’t even used primer. I used acrylic paint ant I had no problem even after 1 year.

If I remember it correctly, I didn’t even have to glue them on.
