New tools for my bench

Thought I would share my new tool acquisitions, not to brag but to perhaps offer up some solutions for other modelers out there.

First up, The Doyle 5" Precision Flush Cut cutter from Harbor Freight. This cutter out performs my go-to Ruitool cutter. I have been cutting away molded in railings from a ship build I’m doing
( Build log: Renwal 1/500 USS Seminole Attack Cargo Ship Chap. 5 08/31/25 - Modeling Subjects / Ships - Finescale Modeler Forum and needed to cut them flush to the decks. This tool does it well!

I also needed a small saw for tight spaces and ended up spotting reciprical saw blades. I took one and cut it down with a Dremel, and voila, mini saw!

Lastly, I needed a small vise. Picked up the 2-1/2 in hobby vise at HF, and this little guy is great! It suctions to the benchtop, has soft rubber jaws that won’t damage styrene, and it swivels to just about any angle, which really comes in handy!

Anyway, just thought I would share my findings, your mileage may vary. Happy modeling!

Very cool!

I broke down and bought a jewelers saw with a range of blades including very fine. It’s actually turned out super handy!

The Godhand chisel set is simply amazing at chewing through plastic and making scribe, ridges, whatever.

Thanks for the info on the godhand stuff. Was unaware of them, and really could have used the recently. I’m going to buy once cry once on these. Have a jeweler’s saw, but it doesn’t work for all situations. Looking for a pinvise style saw with tiny blades next.
