New to this forum but not to modelling

G’day to you all,
I am Erwin and live in the beautifull town of Hoorn, in the Netherlands.
I’ve been modelling since my 9th year (I am 52 at the time of writing) and started with 1:72 vehicles (ESCI, Matchbox, Hasegawa). Basically to play with. I must have been around 16 when I entered the world of those huge 1:35 vehicles, starting with a Tamiya Jeep and a Italeri Panzer IV.
I never returned to the small scale scene, however I do have a couple of 1:48 kits in the stash.
That said, I am far from a single trick pony: I build armored vehicles from WW1 and WW2 (multiple nations), softskins, guns, airplanes (the larger the scale, the better) but also figures and busts.
When younger I not always finished my builds (specially stalling at painting) but after a 5 years’ spell when we got children, once I started again I strive to complete each vehicle of figure. Due to a room issue, I cannot build dioramas anymore, though I do complete vehicles and figures for them. See below pictures for an impression of the things I have finished thus far:

If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask. I am more than happy to answer them…

An impressive collection of works. They are all noteworthy though I will say that your Arado floatplane really caught my eye. Your work is all the more impressive in that it covers a range of genres. Welcome to the Forum. I will look forward to seeing more of your work. - Paul C

Wow, that is quite the portfolio! I especially loved the gun on the rail line. Your photography (and modeling skills) makes it look real at first glance.

As a single trick pony (so far, only aircraft) I really appreciate the broad scope of your work and skill.

Welcome to the forum, looking forward to seeing what your next project is.

Thanks Paul… There is certainly more to come… I have 2 busts and 2 trucks in the pipeline and a Sturmtiger that is stalled while waiting for some parts a friend of mine will print.

Also thanks to you. You mean the gun with the truck next to it? That is not a rail line, but a platform which acts as a matter of recoil mechanism…

It is an interesting gun. You don’t see it often and there are few photos of the original.
It is a M1 35.5 cm Howitzer by Soar Art.

It always makes me wonder how the kit designers were able to produce something that has few references?

I fully agree. But also the other way around: how can they screw up a model when there is an abundance of references available!

Exactly right. My trumpteter F-100 has a crap air intake which bugs me, but the resin aftermarket fix has about as many issues as the original, so I’m going to just live with it. Still, how a $70 modern kit is worse than a 1980s monogram, is kind of a disgrace.

Hi Erwin

Welcome, some very nice models you have made there.
I visited Hoorn earlier this year, mainly to see the Stoom Tram.
Had a nice lunch and a couple of beers at a place on Roode Steen.
Also changed trains there another day on the way to the open air museum at Enkhuizen.
Very nice part of the world, stayed in Alkmaar and hope to return one day.
Bet you recognise this lovely building?

Thanks for the kind words…

Surely I know that building… It is from 1928 in the so called Art Deco style. The Gruyter was a chain of green grocers that at it height had 600 stores. But the advent of self service super markets caused it’s demise. Luckily this store has a monumental status, and has been restored recently.
Hoorn is a lovely town with so many beautifull old buildings and a very active historical society (of which I am a participating member) that intends to preserve al those monuments…
