As a teenager, I used to build Airfix Models, but I could never do it properly due to cash constraints. Then I joined the Army and life got in the way.
I am now retired and have taken it up again, but I now have the time and resources to do it well. I am focused on WW 2 German panzers at the moment and I am in the process of building a Stug III G followed by a Panzer IV H in 1/35.
I live in Cyprus and getting a hold of Kits and materials can be an issue. As the UK is no longer in the EU most modelling shops won’t ship outside of the UK.
I have found two companies that will supply what I need Hobbyland in Bulgaria, which has been excellent and Airbrush Fengda which has a UK website and ships from Czechoslovakia which has also been great. Stuff generally takes around 4 to 10 days. I have focused on Tamyia kits at the moment and using Tamiya paints for airbrush and Vallejo paints for hand brushing.
I have watched loads of YouTube videos which have been a great resource. But I have lots of questions so will do some research on the forum and post those questions later.
I think most of us took like a 20-30 year break lol, i have more fun building now than i did the first go around but we didn’t have internet, youtube back then to learn with.
George,
The last thing you need is nerves of steel in here. We encourage and support each other in here. We help each other… not tear each other apart. Do not hesitate to post your work.
No you don’t either George. We all started from somewhere buddy. Bring ‘em on and if there’s anyone out there that starts "hatn’ " there’s a good number of us here who’ve got you covered bro.
Part of the fun in posting your projects is pointing out where you messed up, how you corrected it or ask for ideas from the forum. I mess up constantly either spilling something, breaking or loosing a part, or not reading the directions until after I figured out I messed up. It’s just how life works for the normal person.
I should add that constructive critique is always welcome and as @Demolition pointed out and is always welcome. It is as he mentioned, how we learn.
It’s the belittling and berating responses that run folks off from forums / communities and that is NOT welcome. To expand on my post earlier…that’s the party that we’ve got you covered on bud.
Welcome to the FSM Forum! Lots and lots of information here, so definitely take a look around search topics, and dive right in.
We support scale modeling from beginner to advanced and every category. The Forum is a place to share and support, and we encourage a friendly atmosphere.
Thanks so much for joining and we look forward to seeing more of you here!
Cypress? Always great to see that hobby interests are Global.
Remember, practice does not make perfect but perfect practice makes perfect. Reading various topics in the forum I have already learned so much on different techniques, options and painting practices, which, when I return home in 6 weeks, I plan on implementing.
Everyone has been great, so don’t feel nervous about posting your builds. We are always our toughest critics.
I am from the UK and I retired to Cyprus over 2 years ago for the slower pace of life and the better climate. The problem here is getting stuff, tools, paints, models and other sundries. I have to get stuff brought in usually from Europe. I have now found several suppliers in the Czech Republic, Bulgaria and Poland but it can take 10 days or so to get here and it adds to the cost.
