New to forum, Ocean Liner Question

Hi All

My first time on this forum. Any one build ocean liner models? I have built Titanic, Lusitania. etc. Looking for other kits. Normandie? United States? One of the original Queens? I like the 1/350 scale.

[snWcm] to the Forum. There are a lot of great guys out there that are ready and willing to help out. I don’t build Ocean liners but I’ve seen them advertised on Squadron and Sprue Brothers sites. Hope this helps. Only one thing to remember, the guys like to see lots and lots of photos.

I do not believe there is anything else in 1/350.

France and QE2 in 1/450

United States, President Wilson in 1/400

OOP but still occasionally available for sale by owners are Brazil and Argentina in 1/400

There may be others but I do not recall.

There was a 1/384 Normandie done by Ideal in the 1930.balsa hull and blocks with pre-printed wood decks and superstructure paper overlays.

There was a site called The Debris Field which had a gallery and listing might still be archived on the Net.

A fellow did a Titanic conversion to Olympia and Brittanic but those have been OOP for years although someone is working on a new set. See at titanic-model.com

I love commercial ships, freighters as well as liners. One really nice kit you might look at, even if not a liner, is the container ship by Revell of Germany, the Colombo Express. There have been several threads in this forum on it, with some nice pix of folks builds.

One subject, not quite a liner, but close, that I’d like to see, but probably fat chance, were those river liners like they ran on the Hudson in late 19th Century, side wheelers, enormous palaces of gingerbread. Big walking beam between engine and the wheel drive. Ornate paddle boxes (PE, maybe?). They were also run on some of the bigger lakes in the NE, and in Long Island Sound.

Hasegawa has just come out with a 1/350 Hikawa Maru.

Revell has a 1/400 Queen Mary 2 that is nice and big.

The only thing I can add to the mix is the ( ORIANA/CANBERRA ) This ship is I think 1/400 .REVELL used to market it ,BUT the one I have is I believe by HOBBY -BOSS ??I could be wrong on mfgr. But it is comfortably sized , BUT, with VERY THICK sides on the hull . My hull is a full 1/8th of an inch thick .It will look alright ,BUT , There will have to be a lot of work done to look real good .You can , if you want creat liners using the REVELL version of the “HAWAIIAN PILOT” or one of the many repops .It has been sold as a LYKES lines ship and a MATSON ship too ( H.P.) The PRESIDENTS can be modified and you CAN build a NORMANDIE with quite a bit of work using the hull from the UNITED STATES . TANKERBUILDER

I’d look here. There’s a notion that this site charges a lot, but I’ve compared them over the years to eBay and I think they have good prices. There’s most all of the good civilian ship models I know of. Of course you can take the Revell model number and go look for it on the www.
