New to forum and new to adult model building

Hello, I just joined your community. I hadn’t built a model in many decades, I mostly built 1/25 scale AMT cars as a kid and a few ships. I built them as most kids do, not very well.

Due to recently being hospitalized and stuck in the house I took the opportunity to finish a 1/350 Tamiya Missouri that a friend had given me partially built when he moved away years ago. I enjoyed it and decided to give modeling a second look as an adult.

In my youth I was always an ocean liner fan so I purchased a 1/350 Minicraft Titanic which I am working on now. I also like battleships. I need to practice and improve my skills as I have never had experience with photo etch and wood decks etc. which I purchased for this Titanic.

I invested in quite a few tools and supplies as I plan on continuing in this hobby. I am trying to also purchase a 1/350 Lusitania as I think it would be a great companion to the Titanic.

Yesterday I received a Trumpeter 1/200 Titanic which will sit in its box until I get through a few more ships and am satisfied that I am ready to build that and hopefully not mess it up!

I have lots of questions and really no input to help anyone out at this point but I do enjoy reading through the topics on this forum and have gained some useful tips from the community. That’s about it, thank you for the add to your forum.

PS: I did try and introduce myself in a post last night but it never appeared. If there is a delay I might have two introductory post, I apologize if that occurs.

Welcome to the Forums!

You’ve got some great sounding projects in mind.

Welcome. We love ship modelers!

Sail on over to “Ships”. There you will get all kinds of answers to your questions, and add your own experience.

You have great taste in subjects. Be conservative about those wood decks. They vary in usefulness. For an ocean liner, the look is pretty important, but for a battleship, during wartime the decks are generally painted caouflage, making the investment questionable.

A lot of the AMT classic car kits have been released again by a company called Round 2. Have a look at their site.

We might not have been such bad modelers back then. I’ve picked up a few nostalgia car kits and it can be depressing.

Hoods that won’t close over a properly installed motor.

Exhaust pipes that don’t even get within 1/8" of the tail of the manifolds.

See you dockside.

Welcome! I’m doing the 1/350 minicraft titanic as well. Slow going for me though. I’d like to see the 1/200 kit for sure!

Well I did win the auction for the 1/350 Lusitania. Now I just have to wait for it to arrive from the other side of the Earth from where I am! The Minicraft Titanic is going slowely for me too. I need to improve before I take on the 1/200 version.

The Trumpeter 1/200 Titanic is absolutely huge IMO. I tried inserting a photo of the hull but not sure if I am doing it correctly.

That is a monster!

Yes, if I had some paddles I might be tempted to use it as a kayak lol!

Welcome aboard.
