New Thunderchief 105

This may not be new to some, but this caught my eye. any feedback on this kit?

Big sucker, isn’t it? Guess I’ll have to get one. Got a 1/72 and a 1/48 version. Why not?

Notice the ejector marks on the speed brake pedels? Also the throttle quadrant doesn’t look correct. Other than that, it is one beautiful kit. I’ll have to sell my boat and buy it. [:)]

Oh yeah! My dealer has had my pre-order for a while now. (since it was announced a year or so ago [:p] ) I’m ready for that kit to come out!! [:D]

Eric

It just registered to me that the pics in the link I posted include both a single seat version and a double seater (the two-place canopies look a little odd though).

Does this release include parts to build both? Or will there be two kits?

I thought that I had heard that Trumpeter was gonna do a single as well as a two seater.
Can’t believe I’m going say this but I agree w/ Berny about the throttle quadrant[:p].
But then again when I look at ref pics of the 105s throttle, the kits throttle is kinda simular except that it does not blose out at the top like the pics show.
Well its still an AWESOME lookin beast!!!

scooterFrom whatI ‘ve heard there will be a D and a G version. Not the same kit though. I don’t know which will be released first but I’m waitin’ on a G!! [:p]

I do have to say that the cockpit is going to need some work though. The seats don’t have the canopy breakers (what do they cal those things, I can’t remember???) on top of the seats. The instrument panel looks a bit too flat for that scale too.

Come on Black Box or Cutting Edge!!

Eric

Well thank you Butz. That is the first time you have ever agreed with me. [:)] The kit throttle quadrant has no detail or other levers. I pulled my reference out, “Detail & Scale” Vol #8 F-105 Thunderchief. On pages 30, 32 35, 36 & 52 it shows what the actual throttle looks like. Close, but…[B)][B)][B)]

Hey Berny,
Your quite welcome my friend!!!
Its funny how a mfg can go into all the detail on the exterior but do a so so job on the interior[:(].
[:p] Unless they have deals with the aftermarket co’s!! That sounds about right I think!!
One will never know what goes through ones mind when they design a kit[:p]

There’s alotta things in these photos that don’t look right, but it’s not surprsing. Besides, that’s why there’s resin and brass in our great (?) world. [;)]

Overall, these two look fairly way-cool and groovy. I just wish I was into braille-scale…

Fade to Black…

thanks for adding a link to the pictures of this bird i have one on order. i have read where trumpeter is coming out with an f-100 in this scale also. Gotta love the century series and admire those who served durring that time

After all we ARE modellers ya know[:p][;)]
Flaps up,Mike

Yep. Resin cockpit and gun. PE canopy detail. PE gun bay and gun bay door. Engine AB resin and PE parts. Total price of kit and accessories, pull out the master card. [:0] The look when finished, priceless. [8D]

Hey Bern,
What your saying is that we should get a loan for this baby? Man if I would have known the 105 was coming out about 6yrs ago, I would not have gone to college[:p][B)]
Flaps up, Mike

PS
Picture this when going to the bank for a loan and they ask you what is the loan for??You responed a model airplane of coarse[:p][:p][:p][:p][;)] Riiiigghhht…!!

Hey Butz. I can afford the kit and all of the extra items I would have to buy, as soon as I sell my boat. [;)] And that is just for the D model. To get the F with all aftermarket parts, I might have to sell one of my cars. [;)] I am going to keep the truck so I can carry the kit and all parts home with me. [:D][:D][:D][:D]

Hey Berny,
Did you ever think of adding on an addition to your place? More like a hanger maybe…[:p][;)]
I just hope w/ all the goodies that are coming out for the 105, they are well done and thought out.
It would be nice too see blackbox or cutting edge do all the aftermarket stuff.

Has anyone noticed, it doesn’t have any weapons loaded on it, or the wing 450 gal drop tanks? I sure hope they are included in the kit. There aren’t many 1/32 scale weapons available to hang on it.

Berny13:re no weapons on 105. The new Academy 1/32 F/A-18C has beau coup extra weapons, several of which would be applicable to the D or G Thud

Dear All,
It has been over a year since anyone has posted to this thread, including me, so I guess interest in the giant THUD is waning. During the intervening time, I have purchased both the D and G versions of Trumpeter’s monster. I have the D about 98% done and fixin’ to start the G. Meteor Productions has aftermarket decals and several resin kits available to correct problems. They include the fin/rudder for the D and another for the G, new nose with correct ogilve shape, new ventral fin and coming is one for a new canopy area and dorsal spine.
The Verlinden cockpit sets for the D and G are both HORRIBLE. Definately not up to their normal standards. The Blackbox sets are a zillion times better. The stock cockpit is pretty bad and really needs to be replaced with the Blackbox set. The stock kit ejection seat bears only a vague resemblance to the real thing. The seat arms are in the raised or “armed” position as thought the pilot is about to eject. (On the original seat, pulling the arms to this position initiated the ejection sequence. On the later rocket seats, raising the arms just armed the seat and the pilot had squeeze the handle triggers to start the ejection sequence). The other “problems” are small and you really have to be an itty bitty nitpicker to notice them.
This beast is quite heavy when done and the main landing gear just will not support it. The metal gear legs available from Meteor are great. There is an absolute arsenal of weapons included in both kits, (same selection in both), including Mk-117 750 lb and Mk-82 500 lb bombs with short or extended fuses, AGM-12 Bullpup missiles, if you want to mount those useless things, AGM-45 Shrike and AGM 78 Standard Arm anti-radiation missiles, AN/ALQ-87 ECM pods, centerline and wing fuel tanks and even the bomb bay tank. This latter is useless if you want to mount the centerline multiple ejector rack with 6 bombs. The photo etch hinges and pins for the control surfaces are very sloppy and best left off. Just glue the surfaces in the desired positions.
The J-75 engine is a work of art and a kit in itself. It is an absolute shame to bury that gorgeous thing inside the airplane with only the afterburner can visible in the tail. The gear legs, wheels and nose radar are fairly basic and offer much opportunity to add additional detail. I wish that they would have included a crew access ladder either in the basic kit or one of the aftermarket kits. The ladder really dresses up the THUD.
The kit decals include Colonel Jack Broughton’s “Alice’s Joy” and “The Arkansas Traveler” The Meteor decals include a couple of the R rated girlie nose art sets.

Buying this… why not save a Thud and buy one from AMARC?
