Interesting, but like edog, nothing that screams “BUY ME” there, though the JGSDF light armored vehicle did catch my eye…
If I didn’t just pick up Dragon’s Ketten, I could wait for that one. Looks pretty cool with the goliath.
yeah but the Tamiyas ones 1.48th not 1.35th
I wonder if there’s any truth to the rumor that tamiya is moving towards 1/48 for armor. I certainly hope not!!!
It would be possible, as that way they’d be able to reach the wingy thingy demographic.
Personally, I haven’t been excited by anything that Tamiya is releasing or has released recently. Seems to me that they’re falling into complacency a little bit. THey have some interesting things comming out in other fields, but we need a major release in armour.
[#ditto]
i’m wondering if there at tamiya are losing there minds??? german, russian tankcrew : YES but american tankcrew ?? NOOOO [:(!] now they gonna go for 1/48 scale , what are they thinking?? they better get some new stuff on the market that not been done yet (sorry for getting angry [:D])

That JGSDF Light Armored Vehicle really looks like the French Panhard Scout car. Might be a good build & something different too from the usual modern AFV’s.
The French Panhard VBL Scout Car
I dont get why Tamiya are bringing out the Goliath Demolition Vehicle and panzerfausts in 1.48th?
what have they got to do with Aircraft, OK if its some airfield bits like bomb trollys or AAA guns but a RC mine?
and why cant they add the PE bits for the Abrams and Challengers in the kits like they did with the T72?
Love the TELIC C2, and the Japanese light vehicle thingie, which I assume can go along with the “humanitarians” [;)].
Nice to see the M1A2 photoetch too. A coupla extra pieces is all I need. I don’t need to rebuild half the tank in brass.
I wonder if the German tankers come with the 1/16th Leo 2, or if it’s a separate add on? I guess they’re separate, as who would want Bundeswehr tankers unless you had a tank to pop them into?
My suspicion is that they wanted to broaden the appeal of what apparently is a superb little kit. So they threw in a very unique use of the bizarre half-track motorcycle that might appeal more to the treadhead.
Only the Germans would make a half-track motorcycle.
The make less money that way. [:)]
I just saw all that stuff at the Shizuoka Hobby Show this weekend.
The Chally 2 is incredible. As much as I like the Trumpeter kit, the Tamiya C2 is lightyears ahead.
Just my opinion, of course!
The 1/16 modern German tank crew figures are excellent, too, as is the new JGSDF Light Armored Vehicle (the actual vehicle was there, too!).
There’s been a lot of griping about Tamiya lately, but as far as I’m concerned, they’ve still got it going on!
The 1/16 Leo 2A6 demos were quite dynamic and impressive. Still can’t afford one, though…
Hey J hulk , any word on that Big rc Panther ? That would be a huge seller for Mr tamiya , unlike the modern MBT’s he seems to want to cram down our throats. There are far more modelers into the historical stuff ! [:D]
Does anyone know if these are in use by other countries? I’ve seen similar vehicles running around the base and I believe they are UAE??? The ones here are armed with either the M2 .50cal or the Mk-19. Just curious.
One word: DISAPPOINTING!
Guess they are just trying to broaden their horizons. Not to sure it is working very well.
It looks to me like Tamiya has decided to let Dragon and Trumpeter run with the ball on armor kits, and stick with wingy thingies, and cars. Not cool. Tamiya really makes the best quality overall kits, I believe, just too pricey.
my opinion exaclty
Tamiya have been loosing overseas market share on armour kits to Trumpeter and Dragon. This is one reason they have re-released a lot of old kits lately - a quick fix to get sales up. Their short term view is concentrate on what is profitable, but still produce a bit of armour to retain their current market base. Their home base is always strong, so they are concentrating on JSDF armour to cater to the home market.
Simple matter is that whilst Tamiya quality on new kits is superb, the price of the Dragon, Trumpeter and Academy kits present much more value to the average builder. How many guys buy a kit and attach PE? If you are a PE fan, then you will buy it for a Tamiya kit as well as the others. When you can buy a cheaper kit, add the PE and come up with something the equal of Tamiya and PE, why pay more? If you are not a PE guy, then the cheaper kit is probably as detailed as you would want anyway.
The cost of kits overseas will always influence what the company will produce. The Centaur/Cromwell was nice but catered to a smaller market than anticipated. How many of you guys in the US bought one of these kits? It was a seller in the UK and here in Australia - Canada I don’t know about. Anyway, don’t expect a new Tamiya WW2 British tank too soon.
